This term, our exciting provocation is “The Fascinating World of Creepy Crawlies.” The Stage 4E’s were eager to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly. They enjoyed discovering the different stages of its amazing transformation, from a tiny egg to a beautiful butterfly, and showed great curiosity as they discussed each stage together. We look forward to discovering and learning about a variety of insects and other tiny creatures through engaging, play-based experiences over the coming weeks.

Our Grade 5 students got hands-on with electricity today, learning how to build and connect circuits. They experimented with switches and added additional light bulbs, putting their knowledge into practice and seeing how the different components work together.

The Stage 3R children have been exploring The World Around Them this term as we began learning about our beautiful country, South Africa. We also discovered the inspiring life of Nelson Mandela and spoke about the kindness, courage and respect that made him such an important leader.
As part of our learning, the children created their own South African flags using a variety of sensory materials. They carefully traced the flag on a light box before adding wood glue and filling each section with coloured sand, rice, sponge pieces and painted tissue paper. The children enjoyed exploring the different textures, naming the colours of the South African flag and developing their fine motor skills through this creative activity.
We are so proud of our enthusiastic children and the care they took in creating their colourful South African flags.

Sensory Day at the ELS

Sensory Day was all about getting our hands dirty—and what fun we had! The children loved exploring flour by tossing it into the air, watching it float back down, letting it run through their fingers, and even creating a “flour castle.” We ended the activity by making flour-filled stress balls, adding funny hair, and giving them some very creative haircuts! We also had great fun experimenting with coloured rice, scooping, pouring, and letting it trickle through our hands. It was a day filled with laughter, imagination, and wonderful sensory play!

This week, the Stage 2 children were introduced to scissors in our classroom and had so much fun! They rolled playdough into “sausages” and practised holding and using scissors correctly.
Each child had the opportunity to cut the playdough, and it was wonderful to see their excitement and growing confidence as they developed their fine motor skills.
