Its been a good week. Our new kids are settled. On the first day one child told his parents if they leave him at the day care his going to die. The next day he waved goodbye to his dad forgetting that he said his going to die.. He looks forward to day care to a point were his dad said I'm jealous. I raised my boys and I was hoping to see them run towards me & hug me but they don't care... I had to tell him that its fine its a sign of growth & independence.
I'm just glad they have settled and love coming to day care because that's where they spend most hours with us...
2016 has sure kicked in. We have made it past 10 days, what a blessing indeed. Tomorrow 11 January we welcome our kids back to the fun school and also receive our new learners with warm and open arms. We ask the universe to give us patience, love, understanding as these kids come from different homes and need our guidance to integrate them into our family of learning and playing.
Yesterday was groceries day. Whenever I get to the day care with shopping bags I need to unpack them at the gate because each child wants to carry something into the centre. I need to find a new strategy cos a box of fish fingers requires two toddlers to carry and you dare try to assist them they charge at you, ki,ki,ki. We even have a song for taking items into the centre. Tinga, Tinga!!!!
Hi friends, just want to thank all of you for praying for my little boy at the day care. His growing daily, he still loves to dance and sing. This week he learnt how to play soccer, his loving it. I'm still not sure if he knows about his dad but coming to day care is like coming to heaven for him.
One of my kids, a 18month old boy lost his dad. Coming to school today he was all smiles ready to do our daily dance. All I wanted to do was hug him but I asked myself how is he going to receive it when he doesn't know what's going on. All he wanted to do is dance, my heart was heavy for him. All he kept doing was show me his new moves while laughing away. I keep asking my self what happens when he realizes his dad is not coming to fetch him anymore. Our kids grow up in harsh circumstances, the internal scars come out when they are teens and we ask what's wrong with this child while we did not help them heal while they are young. I'm hoping this child stays in our care till the age of 6 so what we can work with him and his mom till they make peace and accept what has happened to them.
I know what it means to lose a parent, although my mom passed on recently I'm old enough to understand and somehow I've made peace. As painful as it is at times when friends visit their parents and share happy moments I visit a grave with flowers & continue talking at her grave side as if we are home sitting on the couch. Somehow I feel at peace after that but how do I bring the same peaceful feeling to this little boy.

Capoeira in Soweto
This past weekend we launched our first Capoeira class. It was exciting yet very eye opening. Working with communities one can't help but notice the yearning for integration as well as importance of spending time. Children who came with their parents were so delighted to participate in the art while others were just happy to have their parents watching. Parental presence made this greater than the sport itself.
Apart from parents participation the integration of people from outside Soweto in the sports meant a lot for our kids to see that the sports is world wide and it can open doors for them to compete on world stages. If you missed out this past weekend note that this will be our weekend kick off every Saturday from 9am till 11 am, be on time to warm up and learn something new.
