Profile of your Education nominee: Muhammad Ameen Khan
Muhammad Ameen Khan is the Principal of Saxonwold Primary School and an inspiring example of perseverance, service, and transformational educational leadership.
He began his teaching career in 2009 at Isnembe Secondary in semi-rural Othongathi, teaching classes of up to 59 learners.
After an unsuccessful opportunity in Abu Dhabi left him unemployed with a young family, he persevered through financial hardship, even recycling paper for income while pursuing teaching opportunities.
He joined Saxonwold Primary School in 2017 as a Natural Sciences and Technology teacher and quickly distinguished himself through excellence and innovation.
He became Head of the Science Department, a District Lead Educator, and later Departmental Head.
His assessment and moderation templates were recognised at provincial level and adopted as the standard across Johannesburg East District schools.
Appointed Principal in November 2022, Mr Khan inherited a financially struggling school unable to meet staff salaries.
Within three years, he helped restore financial stability and introduced Vision 2033, providing the school with renewed direction and hope.
Under his leadership, Saxonwold learners have achieved outstanding results in national and provincial Science and Mathematics Olympiads.
Living by the school motto, βWe Serve,β he established MUM (Mercy Unto Mankind), connecting learners with community outreach.
He also launched the schoolβs first Junior Parliament in 2026.
His leadership reflects resilience, integrity, compassion, and a profound commitment to education and service.
