UJ Alternative Energy

ollaboration between the Mechanical, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Industrial Design, Marketing and I.T. departments has delivered a unique and innovative project for undergraduate and postgraduate students at UJ, focused on efficient and sustainable engineering design, energy innovation and the green economy. The students are required to design, manufacture and race the alternative energy vehicles across South Africa to compete with teams from across the globe in the South African Solar Challenge. The South African Solar Challenge is an international, recurring 5000km race across South Africa designed to showcase solar technology and alternative energy. Teams from universities around the globe come to South Africa to compete in one of the world’s most challenging solar events.
