Special Events on Mandela Day
This year for Mandela Day the Senior Phase learners hosted not 1, but 2 events!!
Each learner contributed R5 towards making this day a success. And what a success it was!
The learners chose to support and spoil a local crèche in Bez Valley, which is a part of the Hope for Victims charity. Party packs were made, sweets counted and sausage rolls baked. The Grade 7s went to deliver the goodies, and spend some quality time with the little ones.
Back at school, the remainder of the learners helped set up tables and chairs to say thank you to our ground staff and cleaners for all they do for us, every day.
Tissue flowers were beautifully created by our Grade 4s, gifts were packed by our Grade 6s and the Grade 5s made thank you cards. Every learner had a part to play in making this day a success. The Grade 7 learners helped to set up, decorate and serve our guests their lunch.
It was a truly beautiful day, to see the learners come together, to spend their money and spread their love to make someone else smile.

On Cue Theatre – Pre Primary 12 July 2023
On Cue Theatre visited our school today. The children were very excited and could not wait to see the show. The children's eyes were set on the bright colours of the characters' clothing. They learned about the importance of not littering in the sea, healthy/unhealthy food and being grateful for the things we have. The children had lots of fun interacting with the movements and songs.

Making Mount Mau Loa
For Geography, we had to make volcanoes, which I have to say, was the most fun project ever. I made Mount Lao from newspapers as well as paper mache and in the process of it I learnt so much - like how it takes up 1/3 of Hawaii and that its name means Long Mountain. Mount Loa is possibly one of the biggest volcanoes in the world and I can’t wait to erupt it in class.
Clara Mukodzeri 7R
How I made Mount Etna
I made it with strips of cardboard to shape it. Then I took a newspaper and covered it again. I then made paper mache glue and used tissue instead of newspaper then glued cotton onto it. I sprayed the cotton with water so I would be able to paint it. I added more paint and paper to thicken it so I could pour it over to make it seem like lava, I waited for it to dry, and then I painted it red.
Boikgantshojwame Rapodile 7R
The volcano project sounded difficult but was not hard at all. I made my volcano by crushing newspaper into balls. I then placed them onto a bottle to create the shape of the volcano. Once done I used tissue and cut strips and placed them on the balls. I then added more strips of paper to give it texture. I then painted it with two colours - brown and dark green.

Champagnet Day
Dear Marists of Champagnat
HAPPY CHAMPAGNAT DAY!
It is my great honour and pleasure to greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ on the eve of the feast of our father and Founder St. Marcellin Champagnat. As we prepare to celebrate this great feast, it is worthwhile to thank the almighty God for the gift of Marcellin Champagnat to the Church. A man of deep prayer, Marcellin was grounded in a loving community. His devotion to the love of God, Mary, and his brothers inspired him to a universal mission. Let us live the dream of Champagnat today, we are the Champagnats of today.
When our Lord said, “Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters you do it unto to me” (Mt 25:40). Champagnat responded with distinction to this invitation from our Lord: this invitation resonates with the Vocation Year’s Theme; Generating and Caring for Life. Champagnat’s style of life (personality) and charism in continuing with the mission of our Lord Jesus Christ especially to those in the periphery, is one of the most fascinating dispositions of our founder. His generative style, borne out of his being open to experience, his trust in God and confidence in Mary empowered him to be highly involved and committed to his work and the growth of young people. ‘What will this child turn out to be?’ (Lk1:66). He became aware that education is everything, it is the individual, society and religion. He was convinced that education has the power to eliminate inequality and oppression. Making Jesus known and loved would in turn create honest citizens who in turn would create a desired society.
Therefore, as we prepare to commemorate the solemnity of the death of our founder St. Marcellin Champagnat on 6th June, it is a moment to self-introspect, a moment of self-evaluation on how well we have lived this calling. It is a moment to revisit our convictions and beliefs that the charism we have embraced, that unique gift given through Champagnat by God to the whole church is of service to humankind, hence generating and caring for life. The core of Marcellin’s vision of mission was to make Jesus who is the life to be known and loved. We are sowers of that Good news, to the young people by presenting to them Jesus as a real person they can come to know, love and follow and at the end of the day have life and have it to the full. This vision has been our leading light in all the 80 countries we are present.
As some writers have articulated: “There are three sorts of people in the world:
1. Those who are immovable, people who don’t get it, or don’t want to do anything about it;
2. there are people who are movable, people who see the need for change and are prepared to listen to it;
3. and there are people who move, people who make things happen.”
And if we can encourage more people, that will be a movement. And if the movement is strong enough, that is, in the best sense of the word, a revolution. And that is what we need as Marists of Champagnat to set a life stage where good things can happen. A stage where we become pro-social, doing things like our Lord without expecting immediate gains. We should not only dream of inspiration but work for it and choose to set our direction like our founder, a man of practical vision, an innovator, who did come up with a distinctive pedagogical approach to education our patrimony. Let us continue re-echoing our founder’s sentiments, who categorically declared; "To educate children you must love them and love them all equally.” Through the ages we have generated and cared for life through our simplicity, presence, family spirit, love of work and following the way of Mary.
It is also time to extend our gratitude to our Mother Mary. For Champagnat Mary is intercessor par excellence. Famous phrase like; All to Jesus through Mary and all to Mary for Jesus became our second name. Our mother has journeyed with us throughout these ages and our founder entrusted the Institute to her care as our ordinary resource and our first superior and indeed she has been all that to us. Thanks, our good mother for journeying with us, we appreciate and if this work fails it is not our work but yours for you have done everything for us and we will always cherish and trust your companionship as we forge ahead with audacity and hope. Like Mary of the annunciation, let us be open to the movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives and trust in God for whom nothing is impossible. Despite our doubts, fears and feeling of inadequacy, we accept in faith God’s invitation to participate in the work of generating and caring for life henceforth spreading the good news.
It is also time to remember the so very many brothers who have gone before us in our Province and the Institute during the past year, whose main aim was to generate life; Brothers Jude, Pisco and Guy Lachance. We thank them for being faithful custodians of this dream, this project. The giants on whose shoulders we stand encourage us to continue generating and caring for life with passion and hope. Inspired by the words of Marcellin, I cannot see a child without wanting to teach them catechism, to make them realise how Much Jesus Christ has loved them, we continue presenting Jesus Christ to the young as a real person they can come to know, love and follow.
As we mark this solemnity, we face the future with audacity and hope knowing that the glorified Jesus, God of life and Lord of history, is our hope; he goes forth to meet us, walks beside us, listens to us, stirs up hope within us and helps us discover God’s plans even in the midst of confusion, and human darkness. Let us strive to create a Shangri-la a place closer to perfection an environment that sustains and generates life.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Champagnat day. May this special day be a source of joy and inspiration to you all.
God Bless.
Br Emmanuel

TO LOVE THE SKIN THEY ARE IN.
On Tuesday 4 April, the actors of the Kwasah entertained us! Theatre Company, who came to share a very important message with our Grade 6 and Grade 7 learners. The play was titled: "The skin I am in” and is based on the storybook of the same name.
Through song, dance and rap battles, the cast taught the learners tolerance, diversity and most importantly - TO LOVE THE SKIN THEY ARE IN.
The play was amazing, vibrant, and necessary. We live in a world that all too often judges people on their looks, their choices and their abilities.
The children partook in the dances and the post discussions with the cast. It was inspiring to see that our learners paid attention to the actual message of the play, and that going forward they will not only love their own skin, but also try not judge or tease another person for their skin.
The play left the learners with much to think about and much to chat about.
Thank you Kwasha! For teaching, our learners’ valuable concepts like:
"Skin colour is only a problem if you make it a problem"
"Though my skin is a source of pride, it does not show you what is inside"
"All people are clever. All people are unique. Regardless of the skin they are in"
