SALGA supports, represents and strengthens local government by helping municipalities build capacity, improve governance and strengthen service-delivery systems.
SALGA does not directly run municipalities or manage day-to-day service complaints. Sanitation faults should first be reported through the relevant municipalityโs official channels.
Understanding the difference helps residents know where responsibility sits and which channel to use.
Know the issue. Know the role. Use the correct channel.

Municipalities are responsible for managing local service delivery and maintaining sanitation infrastructure.
This includes:
Municipalities develop plans, allocate budgets and identify service-delivery needs.
Municipalities maintain infrastructure, provide services and respond to faults and breakdowns.
Municipalities should communicate with residents, report on progress and respond to public concerns. Reliable sanitation services require planning, funding, maintenance and accountability working together.
Know where responsibility sits.
