St Peter’s College Chess Captain and Ambassador, Kajol Naidoo, recently represented us at Isizwe-Setjhaba Special School, where she participated in a meaningful chess initiative centred on connection, opportunity and giving back.

As part of her leadership role, Kajol presented a donation of chess boards and pieces on behalf of the St Peter’s College Chess team. The donation was warmly received and will help support learners as they develop their skills, confidence and passion for the game.

Through this initiative, Kajol exemplified the values of leadership, service and community, demonstrating that the impact of sport extends far beyond competition and that true leadership is measured by the opportunities we create for others.

Beyond the Field | Coach Spotlight

Behind every successful team is a coach who develops not only athletes, but confident, resilient and determined individuals.

This week, we shine the spotlight on Mr Dylan Hayes, Science teacher, Grade Head, MIC of Rugby, 1st XV Rugby Coach and 1st Team Boys' Water Polo Coach at St Peter's College.

A passionate educator and sportsman, Mr Hayes's own journey taught him the value of discipline, resilience and commitment. As a student, he represented multiple 1st Teams in Rugby, Water Polo and Swimming, while also competing in Athletics. His water polo career went on to include provincial representation across Northern Gauteng, Central Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Province, before competing for Stellenbosch University's 1st Team and representing South Africa at the 2013 FINA World Junior Men's Water Polo Championship in Hungary.

Today, Mr Hayes brings that experience to the sidelines, helping young athletes realise their potential both on and off the field. Whether in the classroom, on the rugby field or at the pool, he is committed to developing young athletes of character who are prepared to lead, serve and succeed.

Because beyond the field, great coaches do more than teach the game; they help shape the people who play it.

Last Friday, our Chaplain, Revd Kabelo Motlhakane, hosted a meaningful one-night campout. The evening was centred on bonding, fun and brotherhood, creating a special space for our male students to connect with their fathers, brothers, uncles, and mentors through sport, conversation and shared meals.

The heart of the evening was captured in 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12:
“For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.”

This verse reminded us of the importance of presence, guidance and leading by example.
To all the men who showed up, thank you for modelling what leadership, love and strength look like.

You helped make the evening truly unforgettable.

Congratulations to Mr Sonny Dlamini and Ms Claire Whyte on completing the Comrades Marathon!

Taking on the Ultimate Human Race is an extraordinary achievement that reflects resilience, discipline and determination.

Mr Dlamini rose to the challenge of this iconic race, completing his 14th Comrades Marathon and once again demonstrating remarkable commitment, grit and perseverance in reaching the finish line.

Ms Whyte (pictured with her sister), also completed her first Comrades Marathon in an impressive 11:28:01, earning a Vic Clapham Medal. What began as a conversation with colleagues grew into a deeply meaningful personal milestone, made even more special by the support of family and friends along the route.

We celebrate both of them for embracing one of the toughest endurance challenges in the world.

Well done on this outstanding achievement!

It has been an exceptional few weeks for our equestrian riders, who have continued to showcase their talent, dedication and hard work across a range of prestigious competitions.

From 4-8 June, Olivia Morris and Breivilo LL Rapport ("Louis") competed in the 2026 Gauteng Junior Advanced Championships. Competing in the Junior Advanced category (14-18 years), the pair delivered a remarkable performance, claiming:

-Gauteng Junior Advanced Championship
-Junior Advanced Freestyle Championship
-Junior Advanced Victor Ludorum

Karina Govender competed at Eaton Farm during SANESA Q4 from 12-13 June, where she placed 1st out of 12 riders in the 90cm A2 Class. Despite knocking a pole in the 90cm Competition Class, Karina's impressive pace secured her a 6th-place overall finish.

At the KEP Mid-Year Show, Giuliana Lawless achieved excellent results in highly competitive classes, placing:

-7th out of 30 riders in the 80cm Junior/Adult A2 Speed Class
-5th out of 30 riders in the 80cm Junior/Adult Two-Phase Class

Also competing at the KEP Mid-Year Show was Ella Mayne in the 70cm Junior/Adult classes. While a pole in each round impacted her final placings, Ella delivered two encouraging performances and gained valuable competitive experience.

Congratulations to Olivia, Karina, Giuliana and Ella on their outstanding achievements! Your hard work continues to inspire us all.

On Monday, 15 June 2026, Saiyuri Naidoo proudly represented St Peter's College at the JA! Project Youth Leadership Experience and Youth Parliament 2026, held at Johannesburg City Hall.

As part of this inspiring Youth Month initiative, young leaders gathered to develop their leadership skills, engage in civic participation, explore advocacy and discuss their role in nation-building. The event also commemorated the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Student Uprising, reflecting on the impact of youth voices in shaping South Africa’s future.

We are incredibly proud of Saiyuri for embracing this opportunity to learn, lead and contribute as an active young citizen.

Well done, Saiyuri!
