Something truly close to my heart.

This was honestly the saddest and darkest period in my life and more should be done to make it less of a stigma to talk about. More should be done to support families that go through this tragic bereavement and more should be done to raise awareness and improve care. I know too many women and families that have gone through this alone and this breaks my heart.

Not a fan of the sand? Why not have some sensory play with water beads? Put them in bottles or a baby bath. Great for babies and toddlers.

The this week is Social Baby.

Many of us are concerned about how various lockdowns have impacted our child’s social development. The good news is, in the early years, your child’s most important teacher is you. Many children have benefited from spending more time with their second parent and siblings as well. As long as you continue to engage in play, read stories, talk to your toddler often and model social skills there really shouldn’t be any concern about their social development at this time.

Top Tip - Babies typically begin to sit up on their own between 6 to 8 months. Genetics play a role in when your baby will learn to sit unaided; however, you can help them develop their muscles and prepare for sitting with a simple game of 'row, row, row your boat'.

Why do babies babble?

During the cooing and babbling stage, scientists believe that babies are making mouth-to-sound maps so that they know exactly where their lips, tongues, mouths and jaws are during the production of sound (mouth mapping). Whilst they are cooing and babbling babies often have their fingers and hands in their mouths too so that it can be a tactile experience. Language development is a sensory experience using auditory, visual and tactile stimulation to understand the language puzzle.
