One of the best ways to know if you really understand something is to try and teach it. When you can explain it simply, you’re organising your thinking, making meaning (elaboration), pulling knowledge from memory (retrieval), and reflecting on your understanding (metacognition). That’s when learning really starts to make sense and stick.💡

Dylan Hotz (Bellavista Alumnus) recently facilitated an Instrumental Enrichment lesson in our Cognitive Gaming Programme, helping students understand the impact of modern media on their thinking. Through intentional gameplay, students developed key cognitive functions such as memory and problem-solving, while learning to make thoughtful, informed choices about the digital spaces they engage with.

We had the privilege of welcoming Dr Adam Levin as our guest speaker at Imagine College. As a Bellavista alumnus, Dr Levin reflected warmly on his own schooling journey and shared how Bellavista created an environment where he felt encouraged to pursue his interests, particularly his passion for writing and storytelling.
Now working as an academic researcher, educator, and education and culture specialist, Dr Levin spoke to our students about the importance of remaining true to who they are and resisting the tendency to allow others to define their potential. A central theme throughout his address was the idea of underestimation — and how often people attempt to “box others in” by deciding what they can or cannot achieve.
Drawing from both his personal and professional experiences, he encouraged students not to be limited by labels, expectations, or the opinions of others. Instead, he reminded them that growth often comes from pursuing one’s passions with curiosity, courage, and perseverance, even when the path may seem unconventional.
What made his message particularly meaningful was the honesty and authenticity with which he shared his journey. His reflections highlighted the profound impact that supportive educational spaces can have on young people as they begin discovering their interests, voices, and identities.
We are sincerely grateful to Dr Levin for taking the time to visit Imagine College this morning and for sharing such a thoughtful, inspiring, and empowering message with our students.

What happens when drawing starts to move?
Using handmade animation wheels inspired by early cinema experiments, students explored how motion can be created without cameras or software - simply through sequencing, timing, and the science of visual perception.
A hands-on investigation into the origins of animation and the illusion of movement. 📽
