These are the wise words of one of the participants of last week's Leadership Circle Profile -Leader as Coach workshop when the discussion emerged of how much time it takes to coach team members rather than telling them what to do.

It might take more time, but investing in your team unlocks human capital and all the talent we are sitting on in the business. It is important to incorporate both TASK and RELATIONSHIPS as a winning formula for successful teams.

People thrive when they are heard, seen, and appreciated.

Transformation happens when a boardroom is modified into an intentional space of learning and where leaders set aside precious time to understand themselves and those they work with.

It reminds me of Brene Brown’s quote, “Leaders must either invest a reasonable amount of time attending to fears and feeling, or squander an unreasonable amount of time trying to manage ineffective and unproductive behavior. “
