Justice Dunstan Mlambo is the Deputy Chief Justice of the Republic of South Africa and one of the countryβs most distinguished judicial leaders. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Chief Justice, he served as Judge President of the Gauteng Division of the High Court, where he was widely recognised for advancing judicial innovation, access to justice, and the modernisation of court systems. What an inspiring evening with our trailblazing alumni!
Today, the Faculty of Law hosted its Law Alumni Hybrid Engagement under the theme "Advancing Pan-African Justice: Reimagining African Law Through Youth Voices."
The engagement sparked meaningful conversations on the role of youth in shaping the future of African law, justice and continental transformation. Opening the event, Executive Dean Prof Charles Maimela highlighted the importance of youth leadership, innovation and active participation in building a just and transformative future for Africa.

The UJ Faculty of Law is proud to celebrate the international achievements of three scholars affiliated with the NRF South African Research Chair in International Law, who recently participated in the prestigious 57th FranΓ§ois Hampson Advanced Course in International Humanitarian Law in Sanremo, Italy.
Representing UJ were Professor Martha Bradley, Ms Thelma Chinyamurindi, and Ms Zinhle Hlatshwayo. The course brought together 50 participants from 23 countries, creating a unique platform for engagement on some of the most pressing humanitarian law challenges facing the world today.
Professor Bradley and Ms Chinyamurindi served as members of the teaching staff, sharing their expertise with an international audience, while Ms Hlatshwayo participated as a doctoral candidate, further advancing her research on the protection of women in armed conflict.
Their participation highlights UJ's commitment to academic excellence, international collaboration, and developing African and Global South perspectives within international legal scholarship.
We congratulate these outstanding scholars on representing UJ on the global stage and contributing to important conversations on humanitarian protection, justice, and the future of international law.

Minister Kubayi is the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development of the
Republic of South Africa. A seasoned public servant and political leader, she has
served in several Cabinet portfolios, including Human Settlements, Energy,
Communications, Tourism, and Science and Technology. Minister Kubayi is
recognised for her leadership in governance, justice sector transformation, and
public policy, and continues to play a key role in strengthening constitutional
