INVITATION: AI in Mzansi's classrooms webinar series
As AI continues to reshape education, South Africa needs spaces for thoughtful, evidence-informed conversation. Hosted by Human Studios as part of the Lefa AI: AI in South African Basic Education National Webinar Series, this three-part national series brings together leading voices from education, research, government, civil society and the wider ecosystem to explore what AI means for basic education in South Africa (Grades R–12).
Across three interactive conversations, we’ll explore how AI is shaping how learners think and learn, the changing role of teachers and schools, and the policy choices that will shape what comes next.
➡️Thursday 10th September: Navigating AI, Learning and Safety in South African Basic Education, 15h00 - 16h30 SAST. ➡️Wednesday 16th September: The Changing Classroom: AI, Teachers and School Governance, 15h00 - 16h30 SAST. This session looks at how the role of the teacher is shifting, & what schools need in place to support that shift with intention, safely & fairly. Featuring Tamsin Carelse (Pinelands North School), Riaan van der Bergh (FEDSAS) & Jonathan Mendonca (Human Studios, India).
➡️Wednesday 23rd September: Keeping Pace: AI Policy and the Education Ecosystem, 15h00 - 16h30 SAST. A live panel interview with James Keevy (JET Education Services), Shafika Isaacs (UNESCO), Mr Seliki Tlhabane (Department of Basic Education) & Professor Leketi Makalela (University of Wits) on what it will take to shape AI policy & the education ecosystem deliberately in SA.
