1. Is your child currently in a remedial school or bridging class?
2. Have you met with your child’s teachers and has a recommendation been made that your child should move to a remedial school or bridging class?
3. Does your child struggle to follow instructions from the teacher?
5. Do you feel that your child is capable of better results and are you struggling to understand why he/she is not achieving these results?
6. Does your child need extra support to cope in the classroom?
7. Is your child struggling with academic pressure?
8. Does your child find it hard to make friends at school? Have difficulty initiating conversation?
9. Can your child effectively organise himself/herself in order to complete a task? following through with multiple instructions?
10. Is your child able to let you know exactly what is required to complete a school task or homework assignment?
11. Can your child take the perspective of others or does the smallest thing upset him/her? Does your child have inappropriate or exaggerated reactions to social conflict? Does your child seem to overreact to social conflict?
12. Is your child flexible and adaptable to different classroom environments? Does your child perform equally for different teachers?
13. Does your child have the ability to self-monitor eg if the teacher gave a specific list of tasks is your child able to go back and ascertain whether all tasks have been completed?
14. Can your child problem solve effectively?
15. Is your child aware that he/she can ask the teacher for help when needed? Asking for help can prevent your child from completing a task incorrectly
16. Have you assessed your child’s auditory memory?
17. Is your child capable of shifting attention when necessary?
18. Sustained attention can be key – is your child able to sustain his/her attention for the full duration of a task?

October is ADHD month, and Catch Up Kids offers inspiration and hope to children who’ve been diagnosed with ADHD and their parents. ADHD is associated with a plethora of symptoms such as difficulty focusing and paying attention, issues with memory, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. The prevalence of ADHD in South African children has risen and now impacts approximately 1 in 20 kids.

Catch Up Kids knows all too well how these staggering trends affect the daily lives of children across South Africa. Catch Up Kids, is dedicated to helping struggling students from pre grade R to grade 3 who have diagnoses such as ADHD, sensory processing disorder, ADD, and other special needs. Children receive one-on-one tutoring at home, at school or in-person at one of Catch Up Kids academies.
