The ADK was founded in 1939, and has had many successful years of teaching and introducing, actors, actresses, directors, writers, etc into the entertainment industry. We have had many local South African talent study through the ADK, and many of them are still active within the ADK. Amongst these are Henry Mylne, David rees, Marius Weyers, to name but a few.

The Academy of Dramatic Art offers a three year, part-time drama course (Senior cathsseta certified ADK–certificate) for students and adults, as well as a three year, part-time drama course (Junior ADK-certificate) for high school students. The course is a practical drama course.

The course aims to develop basic drama skills that will form the basis of stage-, radio-, film-, television and all other forms of public performances.

The senior Course also covers theatre directing.

The ADK also offers practical and fun classes for primary school students, that focus on developing basic drama skills, including voice work, camera acting, theatre acting, and much more!
