Some more news...
We have recently set up a partnership with the James 1:27 Trust, who will now administer our funds. The Trust will provide:
- Payment governance and processing;
- Donations receipting and issuing of tax certificates in terms of Section 18A of the Income Tax Act of 1962;
- The provision and auditing of a trust account on behalf of Neighbours
- Receive international donations through PayPal or through direct deposits.
The James 1:27 Trust is the first NGO in Africa to use SAP Business 1. Since then, the Mandela and Tutu foundations have also begun to use SAPB1. All this will ensure that all monies received and spent follow sound financial management practices.
We would really value your monthly or once off contribution to our work. You can make contributions directly by following this link...

Some change...
We have felt that as part of our learning and to better reflect the work we do, we want to change the name of our work to "Neighbours". We think this is a better reflection of our core value which is practising neighbourliness. We have developed the saying "we want to be friends to our neighbours and good neighbours to our friends." We keep asking how we can be better neighbours. We think neighbourliness is at the heart of the gospel.
Our new mission statement (still under construction) is... "Neighbours is an intentional Christian community that stands in solidarity with the residents of Hillbrow and other communities deeply impacted by poverty, inequality and injustice around South Africa. We want to become good friends to our neighbours and good neighbours to our friends."
Our new website will be launched in the next few weeks, but in the mean time, here is our new logo...

Signs of hope in our block of flats... Our neighbours are now running programmes for other neighbors from our learning centre...
These are some of the motivated learners that Delta (a volunteer from our building) has put together for our next 12 week computer course at our Learning Centre.

ONLY 4 DAYS TO GO until the next SHARING BRUNCH AND FUN IN THE PARK event! This time our feet washing station is asking for donations of shoes and socks to put on the feet of our homeless friends on the day. Please reply under this post if you would like to contribute in any way to the day, including helping with feet washing or if you would like to host a stall in the park sharing with everyone your particular skill or passion. Join us this SATURDAY 10 OCTOBER, 9 to 12am, at the PIETER ROOS PARK in Parktown!
Organisations joining us for the second time will be Princess Pamper Palace with their stall offering face-painting, manicures and pedicures, and Please with their delicious porridge!
More on the event below:
"Come and add your skills to this special morning where people from different backgrounds will be able to serve one another. We need hairdressers, doctors, nurse, lawyers, balls, bats, food and much more.
The plan is to come and set up your skill or passion in the park and share it with those who come. We will be inviting our friends who live on the streets, people who live in the suburbs, a inspiring community of blind and disabled refugees and others.
We will serve porridge to all but hope that you can help us serve in other ways... maybe you want to come and cut people's hair, or offer pedicures, or dress people's wounds, or wash feet, or offer medical advice, or organize a cricket or soccer game. Perhaps you want to set up a blanket or clothing distribution point. Perhaps you just want to bring/cook some food, picnic and chat.
We hope to make this a monthly event and that it will facilitate genuine, deep, equal relationships across our divided city.
All are welcome!"
