s and we believe that one of the contributing factors is the fact that children who suffer from learning disabilities do not receive required attention. As a result the failure rate are high and these kids resort to drugs, illegal activities etc. Unfortunately, Eldorado Park/ Lenasia (South JHB) does not cater for a after school program for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12 who experience barriers to learning which prevent them from coping adequately in a mainstream environment. As concern parents that want a better and brighter future for our children we appeal to the schools of Eldorado Park and Freedom park to help us find a solution for the problem. We believe with the right teaching our children can realise their potential and unique talents and problems that the community experience may be alleviated
Project Activity
Eldorado Park needs a place where children with learning difficulties can get extra teaching after school and a media room where they can do research on assignments in a nurturing environment with learners on their level, individual attention; specialised teaching by well qualified experienced teachers as well as therapeutic intervention. We need study areas that have a unique approach that aspires to develop the self-esteem and social skills of learners. This program must develop the "whole child" enabling each learner to realise his or her potential and unique talents. This program or learning area must be able to provide opportunities both in and out of the classroom for cultural, sporting and environmental activities. The program must have both enrichment classes and reading assistance to the older learners to cater for the special needs of all children. Needs Assistance with schools:
We hereby request that all secondary schools in Eldorado Park will assist and refer learners with reading and mathematical uncertainties to join this program. It will be the schools responsibilities to identify the barriers of the learners. The school need to address the matter with the parents involved and to work together with the centre to get learners enrolled. Partnership with stakeholders, community leaders and NPO’s
As partners we will form a multi-purpose function. Wise Up Kids will do referrals if a crisis occurs and vice versa, crisis centres will refer learners to Wise Up kids if a learner lacks in literacy and numeracy education. We will work closely together in ensuring that we fulfil the educational and social barriers of the learners. Sanca: when a child is taking drugs and alcohol. Wise Up Kids Aim is to ensure that every child with an learning area gets the help and support they need regarding to education. We are planning to ensure that the matric results will be better in terms of percentages. High school learners will have the confidence to perform better and will have self-esteem. Learners will have the ability to focus on their school work and will have a positive attitude towards their future. More learners will be qualified to go to FET’s and universities. The gap of poverty and unemployment will be smaller in South JHB.
