Choose Compliance, Not Risk
Professional collaboration in architecture must always align with regulatory standards and ethical practice.
Under Rule 5.6, SACAP requires that you carefully select and verify all associates before engaging in any architectural work.
Working with an unregistered individual without Council approval is strictly prohibited. Even where approval is considered, it will not be granted if the individual is expected to be registered but is not.
Key compliance requirements include:
·SACAP approval is required when engaging unregistered persons;
· Approval will not be granted for individuals who should be registered but are not’
· All professional collaborators must be duly registered with their respective statutory councils
·Professional status must always be verified before collaboration begins; and
· This rule protects the integrity of the profession, ensures public safety, and reinforces accountability across all architectural projects.
Verify first. Collaborate responsibly. Stay compliant.

Accountability Has No Exceptions
In architecture, structure and collaboration are important, but accountability remains non-negotiable.
Under Rule 5.5, SACAP makes it clear that even within a multidisciplinary firm, professional responsibility does not shift or dilute.
A registered principal carries full accountability for all architectural work produced under their supervision.
This means:
· Responsibility cannot be delegated away;
· Professional oversight remains mandatory; and
· The Code of Conduct applies at all time
Working in a diverse professional environment does not reduce ethical or legal obligations; it strengthens the need for clear leadership and accountability.
Lead with responsibility. Practice with integrity. Uphold the profession at all times.
