Piet van der Merwe (baritone, good mover, 45-55) A white high commissioner of the police in apartheid South Africa. Polished, yet very military in the way he runs his life. Tries to repress his sadness over the death of apartheid; underneath, he is warm, understanding, and a good man.

John Mcunu (tenor/baritone, good mover, 35-45) Anna’s husband, charming and argumentative, a man of simple wisdom and also the gardener to the van der Merwe family.

Estel van der Merwe (mezzo soprano, good mover, 35-45) A highly stylish woman of taste and elegance, sophisticated, dignified and mature. Has hidden strengths which come out in adversity. She is the wife of Piet van der Merwe.

TV Presenter (non-singing role, strong actor 20+) The television announcer, rather over-the-top, with great spirit, he is very glamorous and confident.

Chalize Smith (non-singing role, 30+) The typical white housewife, very little personality; she enjoys her life and wants things to stay the same. She enjoys all the privileges of white South Africa and wants to keep it that way.

Hans van Heerden (non-singing role, 40+) Stern and unsmiling, a typical Apartheid official whose primary concern is to see that everyone toes the line.

Johan Smith (low tenor, strong character 35-45) A apartheid stalwart and police-man. Very aggressive and unchangeable.

Blessing Khumalo (Tenor, on wheel-chair, 40+) Friend of Piet van der Merwe in London. He has a warm edge to him and cares very deeply for the plight of his new friend Piet.

M-Net wants 20 TV interns
14:01 15/11/2015

Johannesburg – M-Net's Magic in Motion Academy (MiM Academy) is looking for 20 TV and film graduates who want to do a paid internship at the pay-TV broadcaster in 2016.

The 20 will work behind the scenes across various shows and productions across all of the M-Net run TV channels.

For the second year of the Magic in Motion Academy, M-Net is expanding its new internship programme from 12 to 20 positions, and will continue to give film and TV graduates much-needed and in-depth practical experience as they work closely with some of South Africa's top producers and TV shows.

"In Magic in Motion, M-Net spotlights the philosophy that given an opportunity, an empowered new generation of filmmakers and TV professionals will rise to take their place at the forefront of our sector," says M-Net CEO, Yolisa Phahle.

M-Net's Magic in Motion Academy, with veteran producer and director Bobby Heaney as the academy's director, is structured around the film and TV industry's need in South Africa to develop the local talent pipeline, build industry capacity and to contribute to the economic strength of the country.

The Magic in Motion Academy internship programme is according to M-Net strictly EE (Employment Equity) qualifying candidates only – only black, coloured and Indian people can apply.

Those who apply must have had no previous permanent employment in the film and TV sector.

Prior to his departure for Europe early this month, Zuluboy announced that upon his return from the trip, he will be making a big announcement for South African Hip Hop. And now that he is back in his native land, he is ready to let the streets know what he has cooked for them. During 6 and 7 November 2015, Zuluboy will be presenting MY STORY, a Hip Hop show that is produced by Native Rhythms Productions, in partnership with I Feel Ya Media and the Dr John Kani – Market Theatre Foundation.

This theatre piece features some of the best torchbearers of South African Hip Hop from the cypher days, the marriage of Kwaito music and Hip Hop (from production to features) down to what this genre of music is offering today. Zuluboy tells a great story through Hip Hop, borrowing from the sounds of the legendary James Brown and Mzwakhe Mbuli to paint a picture of where South African Hip Hop emanates from. MY STORY beautifully fuses Gumboots dance, Zion sounds and translation of the music by sign language interpreters. Zuluboy also included both the deaf and blind community in this masterpiece to create a lasting legacy and a never imagined before work of art.

MY STORY is a depiction of how music from around the world has been a great part of the art, which has captured South Africa's history and heritage. At the end of the show, MY STORY intends to leave the audience seeing a reflection of themselves and the society surrounding them through this art piece. And with a lineup that includes Amu, ProVerb, Pro (ProKid), Mr Selwyn, Infadizzle, Zakwe, Driemanskap, F-Eezy, Weza and Mthinay_Tsunam, everyone is guaranteed a masterpiece that will last for many generations of true Hip Hop lovers. Catch Zuluboy and all the rappers on the lineup as they will be visiting your favorite radio stations and TV channels

Some people have therapy, some people are alcoholics or they're in AA. Some people jump out of planes on weekends or find ways to release this kind of thing. And for me, it's acting. I find acting very therapeutic for whatever it is. Kevin Bacon

Steven Spielberg applied to the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television and the University of Southern California's School of Cinema and Television repeatedly but failed to be accepted.

He got his first job in the film industry as an unpaid intern in the editing department of Universal Studios while attending California State University. While on a tour he ventured inside one of the buildings on the grounds of Universal Studio. He returned everyday and acted like he belonged there.

One of the workers gave him a pass to watch the directors at work. Everyday for a summer, he returned to the set, found himself an office and just moved in. Nobody questioned him. Nobody threw him off the set.

He made his first film that summer and the executives at Universal were so impressed they signed Spielberg as a television director.

Steven Spielberg dropped out of college and didn't get his degree until 2002, 33 years later.

“I don't dream at night, I dream at day, I dream all day; I'm dreaming for living.” – Steven Spielberg

"All good ideas start out as bad ideas, that why is takes so long." – Steven Spielberg

"The thing that I'm just scared to death of is that someday I'm going to wake up and bore somebody with a film." – Steven Spielberg

“I've always been very hopeful which I guess isn't strange coming from me. I don't want to call myself an optimist. I want to say that I've always been full of hope. I've never lost that. I have a lot of hope for this country and for the entire world." – Steven Spielberg

"My problem is that my imagination won't turn off. I wake up so excited I can't eat breakfast. I've never run out of energy. It's not like OPEC oil; I don't worry about a premium going on my energy. It's just always been there. I got it from my mom." – Steven Spielberg

"Technology can be our best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful, because we're too busy bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone.” – Steven Spielberg

"I'm not really interested in making money. That's always come as the result of success, but it's not been my goal, and I've had a tough time proving that to people." – Steven Spielberg

"People have forgotten how to tell a story. Stories don't have a middle or an end any more. They usually have a beginning that never stops beginning." – Steven Spielberg

“Only a generation of readers will span a generation of writers.” – Steven Spielberg

"This opportunity … allows all of us to reach out directly to open a much wider door.”

– Steven Spielberg

"You have many years ahead of you to create the dreams that we can't even imagine dreaming. You have done more for the collective unconscious of this planet than you will ever know." – Steven Spielberg

"Whether in success or in failure, I'm proud of every single movie I've directed." – Steven Spielberg

“The best time of my life has been the three instances where I have been there for the birth of my children. That is, nothing [else] has ever come close.” – Steven Spielberg

"I don't work weekends. Weekends are for my kids. And I have dinner at home every night when I'm not physically directing a movie – I get home by six. I put the kids to bed and tell them stories and take them to school the next morning. I work basically from 9.30 to 5.30 and I'm strict about that." – Steven Spielberg

"I think one of the worst things that happened to me was, you know, my voluntary fallout with my father. And then the greatest thing that happened to me was when I saw the light, and realized I needed to love him in a way that he could love me back." – Steven Spielberg

“The love we do not show here on Earth is the only thing that hurts us in the after-life.” – Steven Spielberg

"Once a month the sky falls on my head, I come to, and I see another movie I want to make."– Steven Spielberg
