Our Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology invites you to an expert guest lecture exploring AI-Augmented Engineering Research and the emerging role of AI agents in supporting engineering research.

Mr George Nel will examine how purpose-built AI agents can help researchers structure complex problems, connect research questions to relevant theory and methods, accelerate knowledge discovery and maintain traceability of evidence and reasoning.

The session will also explore how multiple specialist AI agents could work together across different stages of an engineering research programme, while keeping scientific judgement and researcher accountability at the centre.

How can Africa move from bold priorities to measurable, lasting impact?

At the PMI Global Summit Series Africa in Cape Town, Prof Innocent Musonda, Director of the Centre for Applied Research and Innovation in the Built Environment, contributed to critical conversations on Africa’s integration, partnerships, leadership and the systems needed to turn continental ambitions into meaningful outcomes.

Prof. Musonda moderated a high-level panel bringing together leaders from the African Union, AfCFTA, the Project Management Institute, the Private Office of the President of South Africa and other sectors to examine the barriers and dependencies that can delay delivery.

He also delivered a construction masterclass, Creating the Conditions for Complex Projects to Succeed, drawing lessons from the Gautrain project and exploring how understanding the full project-delivery ecosystem and its interdependencies can strengthen complex infrastructure delivery.

These conversations reinforce the importance of leadership, institutional capacity, partnerships and effective delivery systems in translating Africa's ambitions into visible and measurable progress.
