Did you know that your baby is born with special reflexes that help with early development? One of them is the Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex (ATNR) 🤍

When a baby turns their head to one side, the arm and leg on that side stretch out, while the opposite arm and leg bend — almost like a little “fencing position” 🤺👶 This reflex is present from birth and plays an important role in hand-eye coordination, visual tracking, and early motor development.

As babies grow, the ATNR should naturally integrate (usually by 4–6 months). If it doesn’t fully integrate, it can sometimes affect posture, reading, writing, crossing the midline, and coordination later on 📚✏️

Understanding reflexes like ATNR helps us support our little ones in building strong foundations for learning and movement 💛

Teacher Petty💛

Every school has that one teacher who brings a calm, grounding energy into the room, and that’s exactly who Teacher Petty is 🤍✨

With her gentle approach and nurturing heart, she creates a space where children feel safe enough to try, to grow, and to believe in themselves 🌱💛 In special needs education, patience and understanding are everything — and she carries both so naturally.

Teacher Petty understands that progress doesn’t always look loud or big 🎯 Sometimes it’s eye contact. Sometimes it’s a completed task. Sometimes it’s simply regulating emotions through a tough moment. And she celebrates those victories just as proudly as the big milestones 🎉🧩

Her classroom is filled with structure, warmth, and encouragement 📚✨ She supports her learners with consistency and reassurance, helping them build confidence step by step. She knows that every child learns differently — and she meets them exactly where they are 💙

✨ THE MORO REFLEX ✨

Have you ever noticed a baby suddenly throw their arms out wide and then pull them back in, almost like they’re startled? 👶🏽💫 That’s the Moro Reflex — also known as the “startle reflex.”

This reflex is completely normal in newborns 🤍 It’s designed for survival and protection. When a baby feels a sudden movement, loud noise, or loss of support, their nervous system reacts instantly ⚡ It’s the body’s early alarm system.

But here’s where it gets important 🧠👇

The Moro Reflex is meant to integrate (disappear) within the first few months of life as the brain matures. When it doesn’t fully integrate, it can continue to affect a child’s nervous system — sometimes in ways that aren’t immediately obvious.

A retained Moro Reflex may look like:
🔹 Being easily startled
🔹 Overreacting to small changes
🔹 Sensitivity to noise, light, or touch
🔹 Anxiety or emotional outbursts
🔹 Difficulty with focus and attention
🔹 Struggling with transitions

Often, these children are described as “too sensitive” or “overly emotional” 💔 But in reality, their nervous system may simply be stuck in fight-or-flight mode 🚨

When the Moro Reflex is retained, the body can stay on high alert — making it harder for a child to feel calm, safe, and regulated 🌿

The good news? ✨ The brain is adaptable. Through specific movement programs and targeted support, reflex integration is possible — helping children feel more secure, emotionally balanced, and confident in their bodies 🙌🏽💛

Understanding the “why” behind behaviour changes everything.
It shifts us from frustration to compassion 🤍

If you’ve noticed signs like these in your child, early support can make such a powerful difference 🌈

Let’s support the nervous system so our children can thrive — calmly, confidently, and fully 💫

✨ MEET OUR STAFF 2026 ✨

Our beautiful, bubbly Teacher Patience is truly a light in our classrooms 🌈💛 Working closely with our children with special needs, she brings so much love, creativity, and joy into every single day.

Her classroom is never just about lessons — it’s about connection 🤝✨ It’s about celebrating the small wins, building confidence step by step, and creating a safe space where every child feels seen, heard, and valued 🧩🫶🏽

Teacher Patience has the most playful spirit 🎨🎵 She understands that learning doesn’t only happen at a desk — it happens through movement, laughter, music, sensory play, and meaningful engagement. She meets each child exactly where they are and gently guides them forward 🌱💫

What makes her extra special is her heart 💖 The patience in her name truly reflects who she is — calm, understanding, and always willing to try again and again until a child feels successful 🙌🏽

We are so grateful to have her as part of our team. Our learners are thriving because they are loved, supported, and believed in every single day 🌟

Thank you, Teacher Patience, for being YOU 🤍

✨ RETAINED REFLEXES ✨

Did you know that some of the challenges we see in children — difficulty concentrating, emotional outbursts, poor balance, clumsiness, fidgeting, handwriting struggles, or even anxiety — can sometimes be linked to retained primitive reflexes? 🤯🧠

Primitive reflexes are automatic movements babies are born with. They help with survival and early development 👶🏽🤍 As a child grows, these reflexes are meant to integrate (disappear) as the brain matures and higher-level skills develop.

But when certain reflexes are retained beyond the expected age, they can quietly interfere with learning, behaviour, coordination, and emotional regulation 📚✏️⚽

A child may:
🔹 Struggle to sit still
🔹 Avoid reading or writing tasks
🔹 Seem overly sensitive to noise or touch
🔹 Have poor posture or tire easily
🔹 Battle with focus and impulse control

And often, it’s not defiance. It’s not laziness. It’s not “bad behaviour.”
It’s the nervous system asking for support 💛

The beautiful thing? The brain is adaptable 🌱 Through targeted movement programs and specific exercises, retained reflexes can be integrated — helping children feel more regulated, confident, and in control of their bodies and emotions 🙌🏽✨

When we understand the root, we respond with compassion instead of correction 🤍

If you’ve noticed some of these signs in your child, you’re not alone. Support is available, and early intervention can make such a powerful difference 🌈

Let’s build strong foundations from the inside out 🧠💫

Tummy time isn’t just for babies 👀

For school-aged children, time spent lying and working on their tummies is still incredibly powerful.

Here’s why 👇

🧠 It helps regulate the sensory system
Being in a prone position gives deep input through the muscles and joints. This helps children feel calmer, more organised, and more aware of their bodies, which supports attention in the classroom.

💪 It builds core, shoulder and postural strength
Strong shoulders and core muscles are essential for sitting upright, handwriting, ball skills, and endurance at school.

🌀 It supports reflex integration
Some early reflexes don’t fully integrate in infancy. Prone activities help the body override these reflexes so children can move, sit, and focus with more control.

👀 It supports visual and learning skills
Working on the tummy strengthens eye muscles, visual tracking, and coordination between the eyes, head, and hands… all vital for reading and writing.

✨ Easy ideas for home or school:
• Lying on the tummy while drawing or doing puzzles
• Reading or building Lego on the floor
• Scooter board or wheelbarrow games
• Animal walks and prone ball games

Movement feeds the brain 🧠
And strong foundations support confident learners.
