Have you ever wondered why we celebrate women on the 9th of August in South Africa?

This day commemorates the day of 9th August 1956 when over 200 000 women of all races and ages marched in protest against the pass laws of the Apartheid era. During the march, women sang freedom songs which included "Whatint' Abafazi, Whatint imbokodo, uza Kafa " (When you strike a women, you strike a rock, you will be crushed). The protest was a great success.

So use this day to do as you please and go wherever you wish. They are our mothers, our sisters, our wives and our friends. Celebrate today's fabulous, strong women of South Africa.

Term3 is off to a good start for some and Term2 is coming to an end for others. Remember to bring in your exam and test scripts to revise in the centre.
