After an extensive academic career, 23 years of which were spent in our department, we are bidding farewell to Mr. Marc Edwards: a dedicated instructor and prolific fine artist whose teaching has inspired many successful industry professionals, including a number of our current staff members. With his knowledge, expertise, and pleasant character, Marc has been the heart of our department for many years. His presence will be deeply missed by all of us.
We wish him all the best for his retirement and future endeavours.

Last year, our third year students explored the use of design fiction by exploring extended reality experiences as a means of enhancing the Halloween experience for tweens - ages 9 - 13. We will be sharing a few of our favourite examples of student work as part of a series over the next few weeks.
First up, Hamza, Kaleigh and Kevin created this comic for "P.O.T.J.I.E," swipe through to read and enjoy!

Thanks to everyone who participated in this incredible workshop with our third year Multimedia students!
The creative arts have the power to provoke thought for critical reflection and inspire change on social issues. Through Speculative Design in the form of a Futures Literacy Lab on 7-8 August 2023, students of the Multimedia Design Department re-imagined a corruption-free future for South Africa.
Through the lens of trust, students provoked discussion and highlighted the voices of youth as the nation's future leaders and decision-makers, by designing for an alternative future. This initiative was co-conceptualised by the University of Johannesburg's Multimedia Design Department and the Transparency, Integrity and Accountability Programme (TIP) in South Africa.
TIP supports state and non-state actors to collaborate on implementing the National Anti-corruption Strategy (NACS), with an inclusive approach to society and government. TIP is co-financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME),
