Does your child find it difficult to focus on the task at hand?
Common signs of concentration difficulty may include:
📌 Restlessness
📌 Inability to remember something that happened a short while ago
📌 Inability to remember work that he/she just studied
📌 Procrastinating
📌 Forgetting important dates, tasks, or instructions
📌 Daydreaming in class or while studying
If your child finds it difficult to concentrate, it can lead to bad marks, a VERY stressful exam period and even a loss in self-esteem.
The good news is that our brains are absolutely AMAZING!
Would you believe me if I said that you can "train" your brain to increase your concentration span?🎓🥳😱 It's just like a sport - The more you practice, the better you get.💪
Here are a few tips that you can use to help your children improve their concentration skills:
⭐️ Minimize distractions (Phones/ TV/ Toys)
⭐️ Find a dedicated study area and ensure that all your books and stationery is organised in that room.
⭐️ Don't study or do homework for longer than 45 minutes at a time.
Note:
Each child has a different concentration span. Whether your child can concentrate for 20 minutes, 30 minutes, or 45 minutes at a time, ensure that they stick to that timeslot and take a 5 - 10 minute break between each study session.
⭐️ A break does not mean that you can lie in front of the TV, play video games, sleep or be on your cellphone!
During your child's 5-10 minute breaks, they need to do something relaxing. Walk or play outside to get some fresh air, eat a snack, or do something creative that will allow your brain to rest.
Technology will overstimulate your child's brain and they will feel tired when they need to start with their next study/homework session.
⭐️ Use a study method that your child understands and enjoys. If they enjoy what they are learning, they will memorise the work much faster.
