🐝🏆 Highveld Primary are the Spelling Bee champions! 🏆🐝

What a proud moment for our school! Since July, our Grade 7 learners have been preparing for the Camp I Am Spelling Bee, which is open to Grade 7 and 8 learners across the Johannesburg South District. Last year, in our first year of competing, we didn't make it past the semi-final. This year, our learners came home with the top prizes!

At the semi-final on 12 September, Luke competed against 38 spellers and earned a place in the finale. At the finale on 19 September, the spellers faced a new challenge: an EMS round in which they had to spell Economic and Management Sciences terms, define them, and give a practical example of each. Luke handled every round with calm and confidence and was crowned the Spelling Bee winner! 🥇

The competition also includes a creative writing component, and we're thrilled to share that Mbalenhle won joint first place for her story on the topic "If I were my parent for a day." She read her story aloud to the audience at the finale, and we could not have been prouder. ✍️📖

Luke and Mbalenhle, thank you for your hard work and dedication over the past three months. Your commitment has paid off, and you represented Highveld beautifully! 💙

To their parents: thank you for your support, encouragement and all the extra practice at home. This achievement is yours too.

Finally, thank you to Camp I Am for hosting this wonderful competition; we can't wait for next year! 🐝

Eisteddfod 2026 🎭🎶

Our learners did Highveld Primary proud at this year's Eisteddfod! We entered 27 individual items and 23 art entries, and the results speak for themselves.

🥇 Emily (Grade 7) was an Item Winner for her persuasive speech!

🥇 Grade 6 & 7 Gumboot Dancing – 96% and Item Winners
🥇 Grade 6 & 7 Spreekkoor – 93% and Item Winners
⭐ Grade 1–3 Choral Verse – 91%
⭐ Grade 4 & 5 Choral Verse – 90%
⭐ Grade 6 & 7 Choral Verse – 90%
⭐ Senior Choir – 86%
⭐ Percussion Band – 80%

Congratulations to every learner who took part, whether in an individual or group item. Even if you didn't get the result you wanted, we are still so proud of you for stepping onto that stage and giving it your all!

We are so proud of our young scientists! 🔬

On Tuesday, 8 September, Imitha, Okuhle, Nicola and Bontle represented Highveld Primary at the District Grade 6 Science Fair, and Bontle and Okuhle's project took second place!

Well done, girls. Your hard work, curiosity and confidence shone through, and you did our school proud.

A big thank you to Mrs Hardy, who prepared the learners and supported them on the day.
