As we move closer to this year’s 𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐑 , one topic feels especially important: how we build the skills and capacities needed for a fair and effective 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. ⚡

𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐑 brings together colleagues from universities, industry, and policy to look at what really works when it comes to developing talent and strengthening collaboration between Africa and Europe. 🌍💫

Over three days, participants will:

🔹 Take part in panel discussions and technical workshops on decentralised renewables, blockchain applications, and data analytics for predicting and addressing energy poverty

The University of Johannesburg is excited to announce the successful launch of the first phase of our Info Day under the FAIR project! 🙌

At the UJ Library's Wellness Expo, we had the fantastic opportunity to showcase the FAIR project and our upcoming MSc program. This year's Expo centered on holistic student well-being, addressing key areas such as physical activity, nutrition, mental health, sustainability, and social responsibility.

We are thrilled to report that we engaged with approximately 500 students, with 106 expressing strong interest in joining our MSc program starting next year. 🎓

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated! Together, let's continue to prioritize our well-being and work towards a healthier, more sustainable future.

An enriching day of our journey in Corsica!

Yesterday, the scenic town of Corte welcomed us with open arms. Our first rendezvous was with the innovative minds at Paolitech Engineering School, University Pasquale Paoli. The curriculum presentation and the engaging dialogue with the faculty highlighted a project-based and student-centered approach to teaching, resonating well with our mission to foster practical and impactful learning.

As noon arrived, we forged connections with the International Relation Desk of the University of Corsica, sowing seeds for fruitful global collaborations.
The afternoon transitioned us from theoretical dialogues to hands-on exploration at the FabLab UCPP, a "playground" of creativity and technical innovation, embodying the spirit of collaborative creation that drives our mission forward​.

Our day culminated at the library where the unveiling of recording studio facilities dedicated to MOOC development hinted at the vast potential of digital education. The platform showcased mirrored our aim of making education accessible and engaging, a step closer to combating energy poverty with knowledge!

Day 2 of Study Visit in Corsica: Immersed in Innovation

On the second day of our meeting, we delved into pivotal discussions ranging from learning material development to Master Course Accreditation and our Dissemination Plan. The shaping of our MOOC platform's Virtual Learning Environment is promising, extending education to all.

A highlight was our interview with France Bleu RCFM (Radio Corsica Frequenza Mora), where we shared the project's aims, emphasizing our mission's importance.

Our visit to EDF Corsica centre in Ajaccio enriched the day, offering a lens into "Corsica grid management" and the dispatching management room, expanding our horizon on cutting-edge energy solutions. This day marked a blend of academic progress, local engagement, and technical exploration, propelling us closer to our goal of energy poverty alleviation.

Day 1 of FAIR Project Study Visit: A Day of Collaboration and Progress!

🔅 On Monday October 9 our journey in Corsica started with a day filled with collaboration and progress. We began with a warm welcome from Université de Corse Pascal Paoli, reflecting on our journey thus far and setting our sights on upcoming milestones. Work Package updates provided insights into our accomplishments and the path forward. Engaging discussions fueled our day, while our focus turned to Work Package 2, unraveling insights from our needs assessment and curriculum review.
A delightful Corsican lunch offered a chance to network and recharge, setting the stage for curriculum development discussions!

🔆 We wrapped up the day with our first study visit to the R&D Platforms Myrte and Paglia Orba, exploring photovoltaic and energy storage microgrids.
