This moment is more than just an achievement — it is a symbol of hard work, resilience, and a shared vision. As we stood together, hand in hand, we reaffirmed our commitment to our slogan: *Forward with Unity.*
Together, we are building, growing, and creating opportunities that will impact lives and shape futures. This is only the beginning — and we move forward stronger, united, and purpose-driven.

The SADC UAM Community & Stakeholders
Subject: Announcing A New Name For Our Institution
We are writing to notify you of significant and exciting advances in response to the needs from our recent meeting with the Council of Higher Education on the registration and accreditation processes of our SADC UAM. We are pleased to announce to the SADC Family and all our Stakeholders that our team has diligently worked to ensure SADC UAM meets the requirements of DHET, CHE, SAQA, and HEQC for registration and accreditation.
DHET and CHE qualifications portfolios and criteria documents have been successfully submitted. Once all documents are submitted to HEQC, it will issue a qualifications compliance letter to CHE and DHET in order to release the accreditation documents and certificate. Due to some delays this year, the processes will be completed by the end of February 2026. According to Higher Education Act No 101 of 1997, no institution may refer to itself as a 'University' unless granted permission by the Minister of Higher Education; however, a new policy has recently been published that now allows registered private institution of higher education to apply for and use the title of private University if they meet certain criteria.
Because of all of the compliance requirements, SADC University of African Medicine's NAME HAS BEEN CHANGED TO SADC INSTITUTE OF AFRICAN MEDICINE; however, the logo will remain unchanged. We will wait for all processes to be completed, and when we officially open our first campus in 2026, we will request the use of the term 'UNIVERSITY' once more. While the name changes, our dedication to academic excellence remains.
As a result, we are informing the entire SADC UAM Community that our WEBSITE will be under construction with Immediate Effect. In the next coming weeks, we will update all of our information, including our website and official documentation.
We will keep you updated on our progress and offer resources to aid with the transition. This new chapter marks a key milestone in our history; 2026 will have a greater impact on our vision, with DHET, CHE, HEQC, and SAQA registrations and accreditations, the first campus to open at Malamulele, Limpopo, and the second campus to follow at Brazil, SADC IAM will continue to expand and thrive.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we begin this new adventure.
Yours in Holistic Healing
