TRANSPORT MINISTER CREECY TO HEIGHTEN ROAD SAFETY AND TRAFFIC LAW ENFORCEMENT AS WE KICK START FESTIVE SEASON CAMPAIGN

The Minister of Transport, Ms. Barbara Creecy and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) will on Sunday, 30 November 2025 kick start the country’s road safety awareness campaign and address law enforcement officers.

Transport Ministry is deeply concerned about the road traffic crashes more particularly, pedestrian safety as they remain among the most vulnerable road users on South African roads.

The focus on heightened road safety awareness campaign comes on the backdrop of public transport crashes that have claimed numerous lives on our roads in the months of October in Limpopo, and November in the Free State.

With traffic volumes expected to increase ahead of the Christmas and New Year’s long weekends, the campaign will be heightened especially in high-risk zones.

Factors such as alcohol consumption, jaywalking and speeding contribute significantly to the high incidence of fatalities. Compliance with traffic laws by both drivers and pedestrians is crucial for enhancing public safety this festive season.

The Minister will outline plans to deal with drunken driving and pedestrian safety especially in residential areas where a high number of festivities are expected in the period ahead.

The media is invited as follows:

Date : Sunday, 30 November 2025
Time : 10H00
Venue : Kroonstad Weighbridge
