THE COURAGE TO BECOME DAD
Becoming a dad is one of the most courageous things you can do in this life.
Because you’re not just a caregiver. You’re not a babysitter. You’re not there to fill the gaps when Mum isn’t around.
You are fundamentally shaping who this little person will become.
And one of the most powerful ways you do that is through connection.
And if you think connection is difficult when they’re babies, actually - this is the easiest time to build it. If you have the courage to lean in.
Because most men have spent their whole lives preparing for their role as a man. Maybe that looks like being the protector, the provider, the husband.
But very few men are actually prepared for how to be a dad.
Society has traditionally painted parenting as Mum’s job. But expectations have changed. Dads are expected to be involved. To bond. To soothe. To play. To care for their babies.
But the preparation hasn't necessarily changed with it.
And that's where courage comes in.
Because becoming a great dad doesn't mean already knowing what to do.
It means having the courage to figure it out.
When your baby is crying and you know Mum can make it stop faster - have the courage to stay. To try. To learn your baby.
Because sometimes the most important moments aren't the easy ones.
They're the moments when you eventually figure out:
“I can do this. My baby trusts me. I can be their safe place too.”
And it won't always work the first time.
That's okay.
It's not about trying something once and saying, “Well, that doesn't work.”
It's about having the courage to come back.
Try again. Learn again. Connect again.
Even when Mum says, “I'll take over.”
Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is say:
“No. I've got this. Let me figure my baby out.”
Because that's how confidence is built.
That's how connection is built.
And that's how you become Dad.
