The Basotho Calendar πŸ‡±πŸ‡ΈπŸ“…

For the past 5 years, I have consciously started observing the Basotho Calendar.

My journey actually began much earlier.

In 2009, I discovered that the version of our calendar taught in school was incorrect. From there, I began studying life through a Basotho lens.

And only in 2020, during COVID, did I really see how, over the years, my life was already aligning with the Calendar.

Stories for days to come. ❀️

But in today's lesson, I came simply to share what the Basotho Calendar looks like and why.

πŸŒ™ It is a 13-month Lunar Year.

🀍 New on Mommy Moments πŸ’ž

A Sick Child: A Mother's Night Vigil 🀱

There is a side of motherhood that is rarely spoken about - the sleepless nights, the constant checking of temperatures, and the quiet prayers whispered over a sick child.

Tonight, I share a page from my journal on caring for my son through illness and how motherhood has taught me to appreciate the ordinary moments we often take for granted.

Sometimes, the noise we long to escape is actually the sound of life.

A Season to Hold Back πŸ‚β„οΈπŸ§˜πŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸ“΅
As we move into June, I honour the Full Moon πŸŒ• phase with an intentional, conscious pause ⏸️

I find myself embracing a different type of wisdom ✨️

As we approach the end of autumn πŸ‚ and prepare for the arrival of winter ❄️ on the 21st, nature is beginning to hold back.

The trees are almost done releasing their leaves πŸƒ
The animals have migrated towards places that can sustain them πŸ¦…

And for the first time, I am not fighting the feeling to do the same.

I am moving a little slower 🐒
I am speaking a little less πŸ—£οΈ
I am resting without guilt πŸ§˜πŸ½β€β™€οΈ

May taught me something important:
πŸ₯Ή Not everything meaningful arrives through force.
⏳️Some things unfold through trust, timing, and allowing.

For so long, I measured progress by how much I could do, how much I could carry, and how much I could accomplish in a day.

But this season is inviting me to measure things differently.
✨ To honour my energy
✨ To listen to my body
✨ To trust that rest is not the opposite of progress, but part of it

So this month, I am giving myself permission to hold back a little πŸ“΅

Not because I am giving up.
Not because I am afraid.
But because I am finally learning that every season carries its own wisdom πŸ‚β„οΈ

And for the first time, I am not fighting it πŸ€πŸ‚πŸ’–
