BLAME SOMEONE ELSE DAY
August 13th marks the first Friday, the 13th of the year. While some might find this day spooky and avoid it altogether, it presents an excellent opportunity to shift the blame for others. What do we mean? Friday the 13th every year also marks another cool holiday called "Blame Someone Else Day". On this day, anything that happens to go wrong can be blamed on someone else. Yea, we know. It's the day we've all been dreaming of! And it's here!
We discovered no factual information about the origin of this day. In the spirit of the day, we will tell you that it wasn't our fault, of course. Instead, we'd like to take this opportunity to blame someone else for starting this day. Haha!
It is rumoured the day started after the alarm clock of a lady by the name of Anne Moeller of Clio, Michigan, failed to go off on the morning of the first Friday, the 13th of 1982, which was August 13. This unfortunate event (which has probably happened to all of us) caused her to be late for everything she needed to do that day.
So if you’re feeling lucky today, head on over to our blog to find out more.

WORLD ELEPHANT DAY
In 2012, on August 12, World Elephant Day was launched. The organisers felt a serious need to bring attention to the plight that Asian and African elephants face daily. The elephant is loved, adored and respected by many cultures, yet again much like the lion and tiger are on the verge of being wiped off the planet. You’d think we would have learnt our lesson by now?
Did you know?
Elephants have about 150 000 muscle units in their trunk? They are the most sensitive organ found in any mammal. Asian elephants have been known to pick up a peanut, shell it, blow the shell out and eat the nut. Elephants, as we know, use their trunk for drinking water.

Did you know? Elephants communicate in a variety of ways - including sounds like trumpet calls (some sounds are too low for people to hear), body language, touch, and scent. They can also communicate through seismic signals - sounds that create vibrations in the ground - which they may detect through their bones. Now if that isn’t insanely cool, we don’t know what is!

World Lion Day's (August 10) sole purpose is to raise awareness for these majestic beasts, the ultimate feline, king of the jungle and the big fluffy kitties of the Serengeti. We should have stopped at the king of the jungle part, hey? Well, this day is all about lions, but you probably realised that just from the name. Haha!
Did you know?
Lions who roar together, stay together? Haha! Lions are the only species of the cat family who roar together. Even the young cubs join in with their little mews. The calling sequence usually lasts about 40 seconds. Yea, weird someone must spend their life timing it. Don’t ask us! In Google, we trust! Prides often roar together to mark their territory - a roar can be heard from 8 kilometres away.

DEFORESTATION
Deforestation is a big word, but what does it mean? Deforestation is the cutting down of forests or groups of trees, which is then often converted into farms and ranches for people to grow crops or animals to graze.
To find out what you can do to help save our forests, have a look at the link in our bio.

FORESTS
Did you know? A quarter of all modern medicines, as we know, come from tropical forest plants? This even includes two-thirds of all the incredible cancer-fighting drugs. These plants, with their medicinal properties, are worth well over 157 billion rands annually. Worth it, considering all the lives they save, don't you think? We owe those trees big time!
