"Women are the backbone of any society." says Diane Mariechild

Violence against women is never acceptable and the dreadful deaths involving 9 women within close proximity of each other has shattered each and every woman within our community.

Today we continue to stand with those families who have lost loved ones and have had their entire family life destroyed by Gender Based Violence. We stand up and call for action as we continue to remind every individual, family, workplace and community to help create a South Africa where women are safe, respected and heard.

We need to speak out. Silence protects abuse. Collective action creates change. Let us protect each other and make South Africa a safer place for all women.

Did you know there is a special day for Working Parents in the USA and it is celebrated every 16 September in honour of working parents balancing a professional career and family responsibilities.

Many families with children have both parents working outside the home which places a huge challenge on personal work-life balance besides a host of other issues.

In honour of working parents we found some ideas for employers:

Support flexibility and highlight family-friendly workplace policies or wellness programs.

Show appreciation. Maybe a note or offer a helping hand to working parents in your family or community.

Encourage more self care.

Promote more work-life-balance policies.

At SAAHSP we continue to celebrate excellence and acknowledge our members who persist and ensure professionalism is at the helm of everything they do.

At our recent Gala Evening, we honoured special saahsp members who were nominated by industry for their commitment to our industry. Our beauty hero award for being our CPD champion was given to Susanne Ableitinger who has consistently been vigilant about logging her CPD.

For those who are not aware of what CPD stands for:

CPD means Continuing Professional Development in your career and it is a lifelong process in which professionals track, document, and enhance their skills, knowledge, and experience throughout their careers. Susanne we salute you for always being on time and consistent with logging your CPD.

In case you missed our update about the current state of the Somatology Register. Where do you stand ?

We have a few slides to explain:

- the beauty split
- what is happening ?

- the industry argument

But most of all where do you stand ?

Our industry is firmly established but has been developed using product sales with commission driven benefits.

Schools include sales in beauty education and we have all been involved in our beauty business where commission forms a large part of remuneration. How will you handle things if the industry changes as you know it?
