We had a fun week leading up to heritage day. From tasting koeksisters and biltong, to painting proteas and making African masks. We ended the week by dressing up in the colours of the South African flag 🇿🇦

Colour identification is an important part of a child’s cognitive development.
Exposing children to, and teaching them about colours, develops their visual perception. This is an important pre-reading skill.
This week we focused on the colour pink as it fitted in with our Spring theme. 🌸

Today in our Science Ring 🥼 with we learnt about mining for gold and precious stones. We panned for these and took our discoveries home. ⭐️

Construction play is the type of play a child engages in by manipulating objects or toys to build, shape or create something new.
The benefits of construction play are the development of concentration, spatial awareness, shape recognition, problem-solving skills, social skills, and more.
This morning our children had a lot of fun creating various 3- D constructions using their creative minds.l🤩

A light box provides a perfect opportunity in a preschool setting, to develop problem solving skills, pattern and colour recognition as well as language development.
Our light box captivated our children this morning to create colourful patterns using magnetic bricks.

Symmetry is a mathematical concept that is observed in many places in our daily lives without even noticing it.
It is visible in many buildings, art and nature such as butterflies 🦋
We introduced it to our children in a concrete manner by looking at the symmetry of our bodies and then using loose parts we made mirror images of our teacher’s pattens.
