EIGHT WOMEN.
Not EIGHT warnings.
Not EIGHT statistics.
Not EIGHT unfortunate “incidents.”
EIGHT women MURDERED.
EIGHT lives extinguished.
EIGHT families sentenced to a lifetime of grief.
And while a possible killer—or killers—moves among us, the warning is directed at WOMEN:
Don’t jog alone.
Don’t walk alone.
Don’t go out alone.
Be vigilant.
Be careful.
Prevent your own murder.
WTFUDGE.
Women are not failing to stay alive.
This country is failing to keep women alive.
How much smaller must we make our lives before men stop taking them?
Must we stop running?
Stop walking?
Stop working late?
Stop trusting?
Stop living?
Or could the FULL FORCE of the State FINALLY be directed where it belongs—towards finding the predators, securing the danger zones, increasing police visibility, processing evidence urgently and preventing an eighth body from being discovered?
We do not need another speech.
We do not need another task team that awakens only after women are dead.
We need roadblocks.
Surveillance.
Lighting. Patrols. Forensics. Intelligence. Arrests. Prosecution. WE NEEEEED IT NOWWWW…!!!
Because somewhere tonight, a mother is calling her daughter and praying she answers.
Somewhere, a woman is looking over her shoulder.
And somewhere, the person responsible may already be choosing his next victim.
FEMICIDE IS NOT A WOMEN’S SAFETY PROBLEM.
IT IS A NATIONAL EMERGENCY.
Do not tell women how to avoid being murdered.
TELL SOUTH AFRICA what is being done to stop the murderer.
Before woman number eight becomes tomorrow’s breaking news.
