Phase 2 of our playground upgrade, following the installation of the bike track in January, is creating a sensory garden.
The first step was to decide how the garden is going to look and each Khulani ECD staff member got the opportunity to submit their unique design for our sensory garden.
The designs were then judged by Karen Chambers, a long-time friend of Khulani ECD, with the winning design being done by one of our interns, Nozipho Gala.
Everyone received a LEGO gift, sponsored by Care for Education, with the overall winner receiving an air fryer donated by Spar South Rand. – thank you both for your incredible generosity and ongoing support.
We are hoping that the sensory garden will be completed by early September, just in time for Spring.

B = Books
Khulani ECD celebrated World Book Day on 23 April by giving each child two Book Dash books, one in English and the other in their home language. At Khulani ECD we want to foster a love for books and reading in our children and we encourage our parents to read to and with children as often as possible. This is the BEST gift a parent can give their child both now and for his or her future. Happy reading everyone.

A = Animals
Our annual visit from The Farm Corner took place on Friday 17 April to coincide with our Farm Animals theme.
Thank you to Harold and Golden for telling us all about the various farm animals and allowing us to interact with them. We really enjoyed the pony rides and can’t wait to see you again next year.
It was the best Farm visit ever!

Our annual Easter Egg hunt was once again a huge success, as our nimble ‘bunnies’ charged around the campus in search of Easter treats. Thanks go to the members of St Mungo’s United Church in Bryanston for donating the Easter Eggs.

Health Week in mid-March was marked by two special visits:
On Monday 16 March, the mobile dentist visited Khulani ECD. Each child had a dental screening, which was followed by a fun interactive talk on oral hygiene. Thank you CIPLA and Mia Healthcare for sponsoring and organizing this visit, we know it will lead to healthier teeth for our kids going forward.
On Friday 20 March, Sister Winnie who operates a clinic on the Diepsloot Foundation campus, engaged with the children on age-appropriate general health issues. Thank you, Sister Winnie, for all the valuable lessons we learnt.

A visit from The Bizzy Hands Puppet Company on 6 March. The children thoroughly enjoyed the puppet show entitled ‘Miemsie and the very naughty lion’ and learnt valuable lessons about being good and the importance of good manners.

Delayed Post ❤️🤍
Celebrated Valentine’s Day with a sea of red and white. The children made special Valentine’s cards and took home a chocolate ‘wrapped’ in a linen bag they decorated themselves – creativity in action.

Khulani ECD is Back on Track for 2026
The 2026 school year started on 12 January with Khulani ECD welcoming 40 new children. In to the Busy Bees and Butterflies classes. The new children are settling well and we hope they will have a happy journey at Khulani ECD with much learning and fun.
On the first day of school, returning learners were greeted with a new state of the art bike track that was built over the holidays. The children were so excited and so are we. The bike track will provide many learning opportunities including developing gross motor skills and spatial awareness, building confidence and encouraging positive social interaction and teamwork.
As we look forward to 2026 the team wishes Khulani ECD and all of you countless blessings
