Occupations Day at Khulani ECD

Occupations Day 2026 was a great success as the children dressed up as what they will be when they grow up.

We also welcomed some special guests from Maninga Engineering, SafeFly Express, Standard Bank and The Diepsloot Foundation (TDF) who introduced the children to their chosen careers. The children learnt so much about jobs in the engineering, aviation, banking and entrepreneurial space and we know that their horizons have been expanded at this years Occupational Day.

A big thank you to all our guests from Maninga Engineering, SafeFly Express, Standard Bank and TDF for taking time out your busy schedules to speak to us and for helping us to dream bigger.

Mobile Zoo visits Khulani ECD

In August the children were introduced to some amazing animals when the Mobile Zoo visited.

From marmoset monkeys to snakes to chinchillas to macaw parrots to hedgehogs it was a great morning for learning about and interacting with these creatures. One of the highlights was the large iguana enjoying a leafy snack.

Thanks to the Mobile Zoo for providing such a unique and special experience.

Reading all about Boinic Zuku

In August, Naledzani Marageni, author of the book Bionic Zuku visited Khulani ECD for a book reading.

The children loved listening to Zuko's strory on how he overcame many challenges, after an accident, through bravery and determination.

Thanks to Lingua Franca Publishers for arranging the visit for the donation to our library.

Life is better in pyjamas

Pyjama Day at Khulani ECD is one of the best days of the year. Everyone gets to come to school in their pyjamas.

The children had a wonderful time singing songs, playing with soft cuddly toys and enjoying a special lunch. There was even hot chocolate to drink.

Why can't everyday be pyjama day?

Soccer is our game at Khulani ECD in July

During July, the children at Khulani ECD enjoyed a soccer clinic run by Coach Thabo Wesi and his team of coaches from the Diepsloot community.

The soccer clinic helped the children develop their ball and other gross motor skills.. and it was also lots of fun.

Thanks Coach Thabo and your team, we can't wait until next year.

The Khulani ECD teachers were recently trained in many activities one can do with the children using the innovative teaching tool - Fun in a Tub. Fun in a Tub was developed by Michelle Karshagen as a way of teaching many concepts with limited basic resources. Included in each tub are pegs, shapes, shoelaces, sticks, balls and dice.

We look forward to seeing the tubs used more and more in our classrooms, improving learning outcomes and having fun too!

Belated Fathers Day Post.

In June, the children celebrated their special 'Dads' by making cards and keyrings.
Thanks to all our Khulani ECD dads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and other male role models - you are real-life superheros to our children.

Keeping warm in winter

In June the children of Khulani ECD were blessed with the gift of a warm winter poncho in their class colours.
The ponchos, sewn by the Diepsloot sewing ladies, have a waterproof outer layer and a blanket inner warm fleecy blanket layer.
Thank you to congregation of ST St Mungo's United Church in Bryanston for sponsoring our awesome ponchos.

Learning about farming at Khulani EDC.

At the end of May, Portion 85, an organization specializing in agricultural education and sustainable farming practices, visited Khulani ECD.

The children had a fantastic time learning about farming through their senses and each child got to plant their own spinach seed which they will take water and watch grow in the weeks ahead.

Thanks to the farmers from Portion 85 for a wonderful morning.
