Apes Council

Have any of you seen the birds flying in their trademark 'V' lately? Moving towards warmer worlds to escape the winter chill just in time world migratory bird day which aims to raise awareness of our migrating birds and the challenges that face them. This year's theme is light pollution to educate the public about the disorienting effect it has on migrating birds. So much so that a scary number of bird deaths is attributed to it each year as some starve and others just straight up crash into high rises.
South Africa has around 100 migratory bird species, with some that remain fairly local and only travel up and down the continent (i.e., the Woodland Kingfisher) and others that travel tens of thousands of kilometres between continents (i.e., the Amur Falcon).

These marine mammals are cute from afar and terrifying up close as the biggest land carnivore out there. Not to mention that you should probably do a smell check before getting anywhere near them. Still, despite their rather fearsome features they don't seem to be very successful hunters. What a shame.
