Are you still flushing your plants before harvest? You might be wasting time and nutrients!

A lot of growers consider late-stage flushing essential, but peer-reviewed research and trials show a different story:

Studies show zero difference in yield, THC, or terpene profiles between 0 and 14-day flushes.

Blind taste tests showed a preference for unflushed flower!

Plants naturally slow down root intake near harvest anyway.

The real win? Stopping your feed a week or two early isn't about "flushing out toxins"—it’s simply a great way to cut down on fertilizer costs without losing quality.

Learn how to make smart, data-driven cultivation decisions that save money and improve efficiency.

How Many Different Careers Can Exist Inside a Cannabis Cultivation Facility?

When people hear “cannabis cultivation,” they often picture one person growing plants.

But professional cultivation is much more than that.

From the moment a mother plant is selected to the moment a finished product leaves the facility, there can be a whole team of specialised skills involved.

🌱 Mother Room: Maintaining healthy mother plants and consistent genetics.

✂️ Cloning & Propagation: Producing and establishing new plants for production.

🌿 Cultivation: Managing plant health, nutrition, environmental conditions and crop development.

🐛 IPM & Plant Health: Monitoring and managing pests, diseases and plant health.

📋 QMS: Building systems around SOPs, documentation, traceability and quality.

🔬 Quality Control: Monitoring quality throughout cultivation, harvest and processing.

🌾 Harvest: Managing one of the most critical transitions in the production cycle.

💨 Drying & Curing: Protecting quality and consistency after harvest.

🏭 Post-Harvest Processing: Trimming, storage, sampling, packaging and preparing material for the next stage.

This level of specialisation is already visible in the industry. For example, South African cannabis facilities are being designed with dedicated mother, clone, drying, trimming, quality-control and post-harvest areas, while industry recruitment includes specialised propagation and quality roles.

And that's what makes the cannabis industry so interesting.

You don't necessarily have to be “the grower.”

Your future role could be in:

Cultivation
Genetics & propagation
Quality & compliance
Science
Post-harvest
Processing
Production management

So where would YOU choose to specialise?

The Cannabis & H**p 101 Professional Certificate gives you a broad foundation in the cannabis and h**p industry, helping you understand the different stages, disciplines and opportunities that exist across the value chain.

Don't just learn how cannabis grows.
Understand the industry that grows around it.

What does the latest cannabis research actually tell us about THC, C*D and chronic pain?

It’s easy to see a headline about cannabis and pain relief and assume the answer is simple.

But the data tells a more interesting story.

A University of Colorado Boulder study featured in our latest infographic followed 243 adults with chronic low back pain over 14 days and compared different cannabis edible products.

The findings highlighted three important points:

🔹 THC-dominant edibles were associated with significantly lower pain intensity the day after use — producing the strongest short-term effect in the study.

🔹 Products with more balanced THC ratios were associated with improvements that developed over the full 14-day period.

🔹 Increasing C*D alongside THC did not necessarily increase pain relief. In fact, the study suggested that higher C*D doses could blunt THC’s pain-lowering impact.

But perhaps the most important lesson is the one about interpreting evidence carefully.

The participants selected their own products, cannabinoid content was based on product labels rather than independent laboratory testing, and pain and cannabis use were self-reported over only 14 days.

So rather than asking, “Which cannabinoid is best?”, we should be asking:

👉 What dose?
👉 What ratio?
👉 What product?
👉 For what purpose?
👉 What does the evidence actually show?
👉 And what are the limitations of that evidence?

This is why cannabis education matters.

The Cannabis & H**p 101 Professional Certificate is designed to help you understand the science and terminology behind the rapidly developing cannabis and h**p industry — including cannabinoids, medical applications, evidence and the broader industry landscape.

THE WORLD IS CREATING DEMAND FOR H**P. IS AFRICA READY?

Here is something worth thinking about.

Volkswagen is partnering with Revoltech to develop LOVR™, a 100% bio-based surface material made from industrial h**p, with potential applications in Volkswagen vehicle interiors from 2028.
Read the full article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/dariosabaghi/2024/09/04/volkswagen-bets-on-h**p-to-replace-faux-leather-in-car-interiors/

This is what happens when industry starts looking beyond traditional uses of a crop.

H**p becomes a raw material for innovation.

And that raises an important question for Africa:

Where is our demand?

We often talk about the need to grow the African cannabis and h**p industry.

But growing the industry isn't only about allowing farmers to cultivate.

We need to ask:

➡️ Who will buy the h**p?
➡️ What products will we manufacture?
➡️ What industries can use it?
➡️ Can government procurement help create markets?
➡️ Where are the incentives for innovation?
➡️ How do we move from exporting raw materials to creating value-added products?

The private sector is already looking for answers.

Government needs to help create the demand that allows the industry to scale.

Because an industry cannot grow on potential alone.

It grows when there are markets, investment, infrastructure, policy and people with the knowledge to turn opportunity into reality.

That is why h**p education matters.

Our Cannabis & H**p 101 Professional Certificate starts 15 September and includes a deep dive into h**p — helping you understand the plant beyond cultivation and explore the wider opportunities across the value chain.

The question isn't whether h**p has potential.

The question is: who is going to create the demand to unlock it? Learn more and apply at: https://cheebaafrica.com/pages/cannabis-h**p-101-professional-certificate

There is much more to the cannabis plant than the flower.

One of the most interesting developments in cannabis research is the growing attention being given to the parts of the plant that have historically been overlooked.

Researchers are finding fascinating chemical diversity in the leaves, including phenolic compounds that sit outside the traditional cannabinoid conversation.

The roots are also receiving renewed scientific attention. While they contain no meaningful cannabinoids, research is investigating compounds such as triterpenoids and their potential biological activity — building on a long history of traditional use.

And then there are the stalks.

They may not be where the cannabinoids are concentrated, but they are an important source of h**p fibre and hurd, demonstrating the wider industrial value of the plant.

This is why whole-plant thinking matters.

If you're entering the cannabis and h**p sector — or already working in it — understanding the plant from multiple perspectives can help you make better-informed decisions and recognize opportunities beyond the obvious.

The Cannabis & H**p 101 Professional Certificate is designed to give you that broader foundation, connecting the science of the plant with the wider cannabis and h**p industry.

Because the future of this industry won't be built by people who only understand one part of the plant.

It will be built by people who understand the bigger picture.

CAN YOU SPOT GREENWASHING IN THE CANNABIS INDUSTRY?

A certification can sound impressive — but do you know exactly what it certifies?

The posters highlight an important issue:

A cannabis crop can be cultivated under GACP standards, exported, processed at a GMP-certified facility and then become associated with a certification from that final stage.

But the certification may describe the facility and the processing process — not necessarily where or how the plant was cultivated.

That’s why understanding the difference between:

✔️ Cultivation standards
✔️ Processing standards
✔️ Country and facility of origin
✔️ Chain of custody
✔️ Different certification types

…matters.

A certificate should help tell the story of the whole product, not create a misleading impression based only on its final processing step.

Spotting greenwashing and understanding what industry terminology really means is part of becoming an informed cannabis & h**p professional.

This is one of the important conversations explored through the Cannabis & H**p 101 Professional Certificate.
