✝️ ALLAN WENTZEL ✝️

With sadness, we share the news that Mr Allan Wentzel has been called to higher service. As Inanda Seminary, we give thanks for how generously Mr Wentzel gave of his time and talents in support of the school. He was the Chairman of the UCCSA from 1993-1995 when the decision was taken to lease the school to a non-profit company (NPC) formed by the Power of Ten. He was then appointed as a director of the NPC to represent the UCCSA and this arrangement led to the rebirth of Inanda Seminary.

Mr Wentzel was then elected to the school’s Board of Governors in 1998, and as the chairman in 2016 for a number of years. He also served as the Finance Sub-committee chair from 2016 to 2024. Mr Wentzel was unwavering in his commitment and support. There was only one BOG meeting that he did not attend between his resignation and his passing.

As a Chartered Accountant with a great breadth of experience, Mr Wentzel has willingly offered his financial knowledge, playing an integral role in the oversight of the school’s finances for many years.

Mr Wentzel also served as a trustee on the Adams College Educational Trust which has always been a generous benefactor to Inanda Seminary and was a recipient of the Siyavuna Award in 2023.

In his Chairperson’s Letter in celebration of the school’s 150th, Mr Wentzel wrote, ‘On a personal note, through sacrifices by my family, I was given a quality education and learnt the value of a holistic education. I have a passion to see young people well educated. My involvement at Inanda is the pinnacle of my personal commitment to quality education in South Africa.’

His deep faith, commitment to justice, standard of excellence and sound wisdom will be missed. We have no doubt that Mr Wentzel will be welcomed into heaven with the words, ‘Well done, Good and Faithful Servant.’ May his soul rest in eternal piece.

👭🏾✊🏾YOUTH DAY✊🏾👭🏾

On Monday, to draw attention to Youth Day, we held an assembly sharing in the history and significance of why we commemorate June 16 in South Africa. And our staff members donned school uniform, while Members wore jeans and their IS shirts.

Grateful for the bravery of those students 50 years ago and the changes that their sacrifices brought. We do not take it for granted.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our Grade 11 Member, Andile Mabaso, who passed away unexpectedly this weekend.

Andile was a confident and kind young woman. She will be remembered as a respectful and well-mannered student who got on well with staff and fellow Members alike.

With a strong commitment to her studies, Andile excelled academically. She approached her work with maturity and diligence, and her teachers speak highly of her consistent effort and thoughtful contributions in class.

Beyond the classroom, Andile participated in a wide range of sports and extra-mural activities, including tennis, basketball, soccer, fitness, and debate. However, it was hockey that held a special place in her heart, and she pursued it with great enthusiasm.

This photograph was taken during our recent Open Day, where Andile participated in a science demonstration.

Andile’s passing is a great loss to our school community, and she will be deeply missed by staff and Members alike.

We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers for comfort to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.

Rest in perfect peace, Andile.
