Exponent Rules/laws: Topic 1 of Grade 8-11

1. Product rule states that when you multiply terms with similar bases , you keep one base and add the exponents.
a^m × a^n = a^(m+n)

2. Quotient Rule states that when you divide terms with similar bases , you write the base once and subtract the exponents.
a^m ÷ a^n = a^(m-n)

3. Zero exponent rule states that any number or variable raised to the power zero is equal to 1.
a^0 = 1

4. Power of a power rule states that when you have a term with an exponent raised to the power of another exponent , you keep the base the same and multiply the exponents.
(a^m)^n = a^(m×n)

5. Power of the product rule states that when you have a multiplication of 2 or more bases raised to any power , then the power is distributed to all the terms in the parenthesis.
(mn)^5 = (m^5)(n^5)

6.Power of a Quotient Rule states that the power of a quotient is equal to the quotient obtained when the numerator and denominator are each raised to the indicated power separately.
(a/b)^n = a^n/b^n

7. Negative exponent rule states that a base with a negative exponent should be put in the denominator, thereby changing the sign of the exponent to be positive.
a^-3 = 1/a^3

I've not done so much during this summer holiday, I was conserving energy for the 2024 school year.
