On our recent occupation day, the children had a busy morning! It was filled with excitement about dressing up ...... “When I grow, I want to be a…”, and we also had several different presentations for a variety of careers.
The presentations started with Farmer & manager Brett Goeman from Riversfield Farming Sam Day Goeman telling the children about some of the aspects to livestock farming, and how he takes care of the animals.
Following this was Mr. Kopano Malebo, Physiotherapist from Kae-Motion Physiotherapy on how Physiotherapy helps us to recover from an injury, and the different apparatus that can help such as a walking frame and crutches.
Mr. Ashley Sokaloo a Sports coach at Howick High School captivated the children next by letting the children hit, kick or throw different kinds of balls, all while explaining that different sports use different equipment.
From Amberglen Retirement Village, Nurse Wendy McLuckie told the children all about caring for patients, and showed what apparatus nurses use to monitor and help sick people.
Conservationist, Ranger Nick Duranty and his assistant, anti-poaching dog K9 Nitus, put up a very captivating show on how Nick and Nitus work together to fight against poaching and snares. They are playing a big role in helping to protect our Wildlife.
The children also had a visit from Technicians at AFGRI Equipment, Midlands Branch , Mr. Troy Wilby and Mr. Louis Bernard. These two young men impressed the children with a fully equipped and cleverly organised pick up truck, to make fixing mechanical issues much easier. Some children got a chance to safely handle the various tools.
The list of presentations was ended with Mrs. Nozipho Ngcobo, a Civil Engineer from uMngeni Local Municipality. She explained what their role in the construction of buildings, bridges and roads is and the children were amazed.
Thank you to every professional that made the time to invest in the minds and lives of our children. Their knowledge will be their power.
