Honey bees are remarkably clean creatures, and they take great pride in keeping their home spotless!

After building their hive themselves, hexagon by hexagon, bees work hard to keep it clean and hygienic. If something unwanted finds its way inside, they waste no time removing it.

Interestingly, the queen is the only bee that uses the bathroom inside the hive. Since she never leaves, her devoted worker bees take care of the mess and keep her living quarters clean.

And when a worker bee’s life comes to an end, she instinctively leaves the hive before she dies, helping to keep her home clean and healthy for the colony.

Spring is a season of renewal, and the hive comes alive with it!

As the Western Cape bursts into bloom, our Cape honey bees become busier than ever. With an abundance of fynbos flowers providing nectar and pollen, the bees spend their days foraging, the colony grows stronger, and the queen increases her brood production.

For the hive, spring is a time of growth, activity and preparation for the busy months ahead.

As the fynbos awakens, so does the hive. Here’s to a beautiful new season filled with flowers, buzzing wings and the wonders of nature.

Spring is almost here, and with it comes a hive of activity!

Did you know that the Cape honey bee (Apis mellifera capensis) is found only in South Africa and is especially well adapted to the unique conditions of the Cape?

As the days begin to warm and the fynbos comes to life, these incredible little bees become increasingly active, foraging among the abundance of spring blooms.
