We are destination for learning and excitement for all ages. Hoedspruit Reptile Centre is an accredited ISZS (International Society of Zoological Sciences) facility that is dedicated solely to the preservation and conservation of reptiles. We offer a wide variety of accredited educational programs and training. We have a variety of self-funded conservation strategies including our reptile rescue a

nd relocation program, our baboon-spider conservation and rehabilitation project, our SECAP community outreach program , we participate in several captive breeding programs of endangered reptiles and facilitate scientific research, and lastly, our reptile centre is open to the public. Hoedspruit Reptile Centre is situated in South Africa’s Limpopo Province, 15km outside of the nearest town Hoedspruit and is situated in one of the most pristine parts of the country in terms of natural heritage. This area has a particularly high concentration of snakes and therefore there is a high frequency of interactions between snakes and people, making this a prime location for reptile-related research and public education facility. We do not buy nor sell animals and therefore strictly limit the breeding of our animals. We are open every day of the year, including all holidays from 8:00am to 5:00pm and are on call 24/7 for any reptile related emergencies.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS: GREEN SCORPIONS CRACK DOWN ON WILDLIFE TRAFFICKING AT NAMIBIA BORDER! 🚨

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), in a massive multi-agency effort, has successfully spearheaded a high-impact, cross-border operation along the South Africa–Namibia border at Vioolsdrift!

Working alongside SAPS, SANParks, the Border Management Authority, and Northern Cape provincial authorities, our law enforcement teams stepped up to defend Mzansi’s most vulnerable natural treasures.

🌿 Key Target Species Protected:

• Button Plants (Conophytum) & Elephant’s Foot (Dioscorea elephantipes): Rare succulents targeted by illegal international ornamental syndicates.

• Armadillo Girdled Lizards (Ouroborus cataphractus): Targeted for the high-profit exotic pet trade.

• Tortoises & Geckos: Poached for illegal pet trade and traditional medicine markets.

Several cases have been registered for illegal possession of endangered species, unlawful plant harvesting, and permit non-compliance!

👏 Hats Off to the Green Scorpions! and partner agencies for standing on the frontlines to defend South Africa’s rich biodiversity.

Thank you Letago for all of your hard work, dedication at Front of House, and warm welcome to every visitor.
