A Recipe for Success for our Grade 12’s 🍰

Our Grade 12 Consumer Studies children recently completed their final cooking practical examination at Riserva Reale Restaurant, at the entrance to the Moditlo Wildlife Estate.

It was a day filled with creativity, talent, a few nail-biting moments and some truly impressive results! Our children prepared beautiful choux pastries, each with their own individual sweet and savoury fillings, showcasing the skills they have worked so hard to develop over the past years.

We are incredibly proud of their efforts, not only on the day of the examination but throughout the preparation and practice that brought them to this point. Well done Grade 12’s!

A special thank you to Tracy Yates for her assistance with moderating and for generously hosting the examination at Riserva Reale Restaurant. We truly appreciate your support in making this such a valuable experience for our children. 💚

Grade 9’s Hike in the Wolkberg ⛰️

The Grade 9 annual school hike is a true rite of passage for our children. This year, instead of hiking up Mariepskop as in previous years, their hike took them to the Wolkberg mountains.

For five days our amazing Grade 9 children traded the comforts of everyday life for hiking boots, tents and the great outdoors. They climbed, camped, pushed through tired legs and moments of discomfort and learned to dig deep when the going got tough.

But beyond the physical challenge, the trip helped them to discover what they are capable of when they step outside their comfort zones. Along the way, there was plenty of laughter, breathtaking scenery and time to simply soak up the beauty of nature.

A challenge conquered together and an experience our Grade 9’s will never forget.🏕️🌄

Happy World Teachers’ Day 💚

As we’re enjoying school holidays today, we celebrated our wonderful teachers on break-up day in true SCS style!

Our Grade 7’s made their way through the Preschool, Prep and College, delivering a special gift bag to each of our teachers. 🎁

This thoughtful gesture was organised by our amazing Parent Association, as a token of appreciation for our incredible SCS teachers.

To our teachers- thank you for your unwavering dedication, passion, care and commitment. You pour so much of yourselves into our children every single day. We appreciate you all more than you can imagine.

Happy World Teachers’ Day! 💚

My name is Erin Wittstock and I am the Grade 4 Class Teacher at Southern Cross Schools.

I am originally from Durban, KZN. I went to Danville Park Girls High School and studied a Bachelor of Education at Varsity College.

I needed a change from living in Durban and so when an opportunity came up to teach at Southern Cross Schools and move to Hoedspruit, I took it!

I love teaching at Southern Cross Schools because of the nature that surrounds us every day. I am passionate about developing a strong sense of self in the children that I teach. I also believe strongly in the importance of creating a happy school environment for children.

In my spare time I enjoy being around friends and socializing. If you’re looking for my weak spot, I love chocolate and sour sweets!

Something that people may not know about me is that I love snakes and other reptiles. I grew up surrounded by reptiles and other fascinating creatures because my Dad and brother were both passionate about them. As a result, I developed a deep appreciation for them. This has continued to grow, and I am always eager to learn more about the incredible world of these animals. I’ve done a snake handling course and am keen to learn more about snakes and how to handle them.
