Matric Dance Invitation Evening 2026🌟

Last week our Grade 1 children had the very special job of delivering the Matric Dance invitations to the Matric Class of 2026.

In keeping with one of our treasured Southern Cross traditions, the Grade 1s and Matrics gathered in a riverbed, where each Matric received their invitation from one of the youngest members of our school community. This year we had a particularly special moment with one of our Matrics receiving his invitation from his little sister in Grade 1 ❤️🥹.

Our Matric Dance Invitation Evening is an incredibly meaningful tradition, a beautiful reminder of the journey our children take at SCS, from their very first years of school to their final year.

For our Matric Class of 2026, this also marks the beginning of the final celebrations of their school journey. After years of learning, growing, leading and making memories, their time at Southern Cross is drawing to a close.

We look forward to celebrating this special group of young people in the weeks ahead as they prepare for their Matric Dance and, before long, take their next steps into the world beyond SCS. 💚🌟

College First Aiders

Ten of our College children recently completed their Level 1 First Aid course.

The day included a short theory exam, along with a range of interesting and practical activities that gave our children the opportunity to put their new skills into practice.

We are incredibly proud of these children for completing this valuable course that will equip them with skills for life .👏💚

⛽ A Very Special Gift for Our Preschool

The Grade R Class of 2026 has chosen a very special year-end gift for the Preschool: an exciting upgrade to the bike track!

The track has been resurfaced and repainted, colourful plants have been added to the large tyres, and beautiful road signs have been created and installed around the track.

But the latest addition has been a huge hit — a real petrol pump! ⛽ The children have been loving stopping at the “petrol station” to fill up their plastic motorbikes before continuing their adventures around the track.

Perhaps the sweetest part has been watching the children patiently line up and wait their turn to be served by the “Petrol Attendant”. It’s a wonderful little example of imagination, cooperation and social play.

Thank you so much to our Preschool Grade R parent body for the generosity, creativity, time and hard work that has gone into bringing this project to life. We are incredibly grateful. What a beautiful example of the SCS community coming together to create something that will be enjoyed for years to come.

Prep Hockey Season in Full Swing 🏑

Our Prep hockey season has been filled with lots of excitement, energy and time on the field for our boys and girls.

Some fixtures have been at home on our beautiful SCS field, while others have seen our teams travelling far and wide, from Mariepskop to Tzaneen and Phalaborwa. It has been wonderful to watch our children grow in confidence, develop their skills and, most importantly, enjoy playing the game.

Thank you to all our children for playing their hearts out this season and to our coaches for their dedication and passion.

SCS parents - thank you for your unwavering support, cheering from the sidelines and for your willingness to help with transport. We couldn’t do it without you!

A very special thank you to Mrs van den Hastenberg, whose invaluable coaching and guidance has made such a difference to our coaches and children this hockey season. We are incredibly grateful for the time and expertise you have shared so generously.

From the Classroom to the Starting Line! 🏃‍♀️

Congratulations to Ms Elize de Meyer, our College Life Sciences teacher, who has been selected for the LIMA Cross Country Team and will represent Limpopo at the National Championships in the 4 km race.

What an incredible achievement and reflection of Ms de Meyer’s dedication and passion for running.

It is so inspiring for our children to see one of their teachers competing at such a high level. We are so fortunate to have Elize’s enthusiasm and passion for running as part of our SCS community.

We are incredibly proud of you, Ms de Meyer, and will be cheering you on at Nationals on 5 September!🏃‍♀️✨
