We are thrilled to announce that Cowan House will be breaking ground on our brand new, full field astro turf in the coming month.
This incredible development marks a major step forward for our school, creating a modern, multi purpose facility that will significantly enhance opportunities for both our boys and girls. With increased access to high quality practice space, our players will be able to train more effectively, develop their skills, and enjoy the game even more.
But thatโs not all! This new astro will also allow us to expand our festival and tournament offerings, welcoming even more schools and teams to Cowan House for memorable sporting events.
We are incredibly excited about what this means for our community and cannot wait to see the first turf laid and the future matches played on it.

Cowan House recently celebrated an outstanding Speech and Drama Festival, with pupils showcasing impressive confidence, creativity and communication skills.
From 482 entries, pupils achieved 171 A symbols and 153 A+ symbolsโan excellent reflection of their hard work, enthusiasm and strong staff support.
Special mention goes to pupils achieving three or more A/A+ symbols, including Camilla Haynes and Donna Beth Williams (3 A+ each), Chumile Mvulane (5 A), Georgia Armour (3 A+ and 1 A).
Jack Burger, Kaela Clarke, Liam Seele (Grade 7) each earning a combination of A+ and A symbols across multiple entries, and Yandisa Mnguni (1 A+ and 4 A).
We are also proud that several pupils have been selected for the SADASA Primary School Showcase 2026, including Jedi Van der Linde, James Wijnberg, Ruby Haynes, Camilla Haynes, Donna-Beth Williams, Thandolwethu Moniwa, Aiden Els, Georgia Armour and Hugh Fraser.
These results, along with many others across the school, highlight the depth of talent and commitment within our Speech and Drama programme. The festival continues to play an important role in developing confident communicators, and we are incredibly proud of the high standard achieved this year.

Andrew O and Nehemiah K were drafted in early May for the inaugural Tuskers Junior League, competing across Pietermaritzburg.
Under the guidance of familiar face, Mr Nikhil Sewbran, the team achieved an incredible 8 consecutive wins and went on to clinch a thrilling final at the Pietermaritzburg Oval. Both boys played key roles throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, Julio DJ, Josh B and Rorke F took part in the Annual XPL at Merchiston Prep over the first two weekends of June, also coached by Mr Sewbran. After 8 tough round-robin matches, they advanced to the semi finals and then powered through to win the final - securing the title for the first time in their age group!
A fantastic all round effort from all the boys (and their coach) with bat, ball, and in the field. Well done.

We are incredibly proud of all of our artists who submitted pieces as part of the Royal Honey Festival Arts & Crafts competition for schools. Our Art teacher, Mrs Robyn Williams, visited the festival today and received a certificate, naming Cowan House as the overall schools winner, based on a points system.
We would like to acknowledge the following boys and girls who placed in their respective categories. Also noteworthy is that Cowan House placed in every category in which we entered.

Our Grade RR children had the most delightful time on their very first off campus adventure to the Botanical Gardens last week.
As part of their learning about the seasons, they explored the gardens under crisp winter skies. The children enthusiastically searched for the biggest tree they could find, collected a variety of interesting leaves and admired the beautiful red hot pokers in bloom.
How fortunate that we have such a natural treasure right on our doorstep. It offers our little learners endless opportunities for exploration, discovery, and hands on learning in the most wonderful setting. A memorable day filled with curiosity and joy!

Today, we remember the courage and sacrifice of the young people of 16 June 1976, whose voices helped shape the future of our country. Their bravery reminds us of the power of youth to inspire change.
May we continue to encourage our children to speak up, stand strong, and make a positive difference in our country and in our world.
