Gross Motor Skills Needed for Page Stabilization During Writing 29/04/2021

WHY CORE MUSCLE IS TIED TO PAGE STABILIZATION AND HANDWRITING

"Children use their dominant hand to hold a writing implement and use their non-dominant hand to stabilize the page they are working on. They provide just enough pressure so that the page does not move. The dominant forearm also rests on the page with their fingers and hands controlling the pencil."

Gross Motor Skills Needed for Page Stabilization During Writing Does your child struggle to stabilize their work during writing? Gross motor skills such as core muscle strength, bilateral coordination and shoulder stability may be contributing factors.

Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability. The child may appear to have age appropriate speech and language skills. It takes a trained SLP to see the subtle signs of expressive or receptive language delays in very bright and creative children. The child may do well in a 1:1 small setting and have decreased abilities in a larger group with multiple activities occurring. It's not black and white. Sometime the SLP needs to observe the child in addition to an evaluation. A screening will not pick up all areas of need.
