𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 Today, we celebrate what makes each of us unique — and what we share as members of the Hillcrest High School family and the proudly diverse South African community. ❤️💛💚💙

This week, our Hillcrest High School learners and staff embraced Heritage Day 2026 by dressing in civvies representing the rich and diverse cultures that make up our beautiful country. We believe that celebrating our heritage is about more than simply wearing traditional or cultural clothing. It is about understanding where we come from, appreciating the heritage of others and recognising the diversity that brings our school community together.

Heritage Day, celebrated on 24 September, is a time for South Africans to recognise and celebrate the cultural wealth of our nation — our traditions, stories, languages, music, customs, knowledge and the memories passed from one generation to the next. By sharing and celebrating our different backgrounds, we help ensure that these stories, traditions and skills continue to live on.

Today we celebrate the colours, cultures and stories that make us South African!

Angel placed 4th in the 800m, 2nd in the Long Jump and 1st in the 100m Sprint setting a new record of 13.58 seconds. Well done to you all, we wish you strong legs in the upcoming competition!

Such a privilege to be able to support our local primary schools last week. Forest View Primary needed lighting equipment and our AV Club jumped at the opportunity to assist with their school play. Hillcrest Primary School needed costumes for their Grade 7 production, Grossbusters, and our Drama Department stepped up willingly to assist, and went along to support too! Thank you to Jonathan Langston Samantha Macdonald and Mr Mervyn Bartholomew for your incredible support and enthusiasm! Our motto lives on strong!

𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗙𝗹𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 - 𝗘𝗚𝗗 HHS hosted the Pinetown District Round of the Sasol Kagiso Trust National Skills Competition, organised by the Department of Education, on 27 August. Hillcrest High School Grade 11 Engineering, Graphics and Design learners competed across the two categories - Drawing Board and CAD. The competition challenges learners to complete higher-grade EGD work. Under the guidance of Mr Burger, our learners have worked exceptionally hard to develop their technical skills and prepare for each stage of the competition.

We are incredibly proud of Mark Altson and Phelisa Hadebe (pictured with Mr Andrew Burger) who have achieved outstanding results, placing 1st in the district in their respective categories. Phelisa, who competed in the Drawing Board category achieved an impressive 95%, while Mark, who competed in the CAD category also secured 1st place.

At the KZN Provincial Round, held at Meadowlands Technical High School on 11–12 September, both learners once again achieved 1st place in KZN. Mark achieved an impressive 93%, with both learners qualifying for the National Competition.

We wish Phelisa and Mark every success as they go on to represent Hillcrest High School and KwaZulu-Natal at the National Competition in Johannesburg from 30 September to 2 October 2026.
