Ryan (Class of 2020) and Grant (Class of 2022) Mason are making serious waves in the world of competitive powerlifting — breaking national records and heading to the world stage representing South Africa!

The brothers only started powerlifting in 2022, but their dedication quickly paid off.

Earlier this year, they both won gold at the AWPC Nationals and earned their spots to represent SA at the World Championships. Ryan holds the SA under-24 squat record, lifting 200kg at under 75kg bodyweight.

“It gives me a reason to show up to the gym every day and keep training to beat the competition,” says Ryan.

“It’s a great community,” adds Grant. “The support from other powerlifters is incredible. If it’s something that interests you — just start!”

Outside the gym, Ryan is a tour pilot based in Cape Town, while Grant is currently studying software development.

We’re incredibly proud of these Waterfall College alumni and can’t wait to see what’s next!

Alumni Spotlight: Alex Louter (Class of 2019) | Top Law Graduate and Fulbright Scholar US

Congratulations to Alex Louter, Waterfall College Class of 2019, who has graduated summa cm laude in her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Alex’s dedication and academic excellence earned her the distinction of top of her class, and she has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to pursue a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Children’s Rights at the University of Michigan in the United States.

Currently completing her articles at Norton Rose Fulbright, Alex will soon begin her LLM studies abroad. Talking to UKZN Ndaba Online, Alex explained that her passion for children’s rights advocacy was ignited during five months of volunteering at a home for survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking in Eswatini — an experience that shaped her commitment to using the law to protect vulnerable children.

Alex attributes her success to hard work, perseverance and her faith. We are inspired by Alex’s heart for justice and service, and look forward to seeing the incredible impact she will make on the world.

Keith Decker is a legend, having impact hundreds of lives during his time at Waterfall College, Kearsney College and beyond. He is living proof of how teachers change lives! During the April floods in KZN, Mr Decker's home was severely impacted, with a significant portion of the repair work not covered by insurance. An ex pupil has set up a campaign to assist with those costs. To find out more, visit https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/keith-decker
