There are many ways for us to express anger, both passive and aggressive. One of the more popular ones I have noticed lately (especially in the workplace) is manipulating or controlling others through the use of one's illness or suffering. It is really effective for people who battle to be direct in their interactions. Who is going to argue with someone who is in pain?
If pain is the only ‘power’ a person has, in order to get attention or to get even, becoming healthy doesn’t seem like a good option then, does it? (I am opening myself up to smart ass comments aren’t I?)
Anyhow, I think that becoming healthy is more complex than just getting over an illness for those people. Regaining health means moving from a condition of weakness to one of strength, from a victim and a timid looker-on to an assertive protector of your personal boundaries. That sure would take some doing. Can you imagine the personal transformation and ripple effect on all those around if they chose to really heal. (Of course if you would like to give this technique a shot – let me know how it goes)
