The Mercury Hibberdene Children's Holiday Home A quiet retreat for underprivileged children. http://www.patc.co.za/corporate-social-responsibility/

The Mercury Hibberdene Children’s Holiday Home nestled on an unspoilt stretch of Kwa Zulu Natal South Coast
just an hour’s drive from Durban, provides a quiet retreat for underprivileged children. For many children it’s the first time they have seen the sea and the memory of a holiday at the home remains with them forever – prompting some to return later in life to help preserve the home for the c

hildren of the future. Since its doors were first opened to give underprivileged children much needed holiday breaks at the beach, the
home has been funded through donations, street collections and fund raising projects. From the mid-nineties a major portion of the home’s income has also been generated by renting it to guests such
as school, church and sports groups, when it is not occupied during holidays by the underprivileged children for
whom it was built.

Mandela Day Celebrations

We had an amazing week of celebrations at The Mercury Hibberdene Children’s Holiday Home to honour a great man. In true KZN-style local businesses came out in full force to make sure the children had a memorable, fun filled experience.

“The Mercury and sponsors; FNB, Dairymaid, Wild Coast Sun, Spur Golden Moon, Sir Juice and Beaver Creek treated 120 children from The Mercury Hibberdene Children’s Home to a day of fun in the winter sun at the Wild Coast Sun Wild Waves Water Park on the South Coast, where they had an exhilarating time splashing down the slides and swimming in the pools as an extended celebration of Nelson Mandela Day.” Article courtesy of The Mercury

In 2016 HibHome were so extremely blessed and fortunate enough to receive a grant that enabled the installation of the Ackerman Foundation Unique Food Security Project at the home.

This Unique Food Security Project is aimed at adding a nutritionist element to the HibHome’s programme through education as well as the growth of food sources for the children visiting the home throughout the year.

Take a look at the progress and development of the Ackerman Foundation Unique Food and Security Project over the last few months, we are so excited to share this with you http://www.hibhome.org.za/progress-on-the-ackerman-foundation-unique-food-security-project/

DID YOU KNOW:

Hibhome’s beneficiaries are mostly children whose lives have been affected by poverty, illness and dire circumstances.

These are children who truly appreciate the new toothbrush, towel or toy that they are given. Who, during their stay, get to sleep in their own bed with freshly laundered linen and have their plates filled until they nod that they have a sufficient amount of food. In their innocence, some question the kindness and abundance like it’s a foreign concept. It often is for the child rescued from a harsh life on the streets and for those robbed, too early, of a loving mother.

A stay at the Home where there is an abundance of care and understanding often leaves an indelible mark on their young lives, giving hope for a better future.
