🌿 THURSDAY MUSINGS: SOMETIMES FAILURE IS THE START OF SUCCESS

We live in a world where failure is seen as something to avoid. When things don't work out, it's easy to feel frustrated or question our abilities. But what if we looked at failure a little differently?

When I work with adolescents, I try to help them understand that a strategy rarely works perfectly the first time. Sometimes, we need to try something, see what happens, and adapt.

Honestly, it's a lesson I have to remind myself of, too.

Recently, I tried a new strategy to help my own son manage technology and gaming. It didn't work as hoped. Rather than giving up, I stepped back, analyzed what went wrong, and changed our approach. We're now on attempt number two. Will it work? I don't know yet, but that's the point; we're learning as we go.

This mindset is critical for young adolescents who are still discovering who they are and navigating new challenges. They will inevitably get things wrong.
How they respond makes all the difference.

Instead of seeing mistakes as a reason to give up, they can learn to pause, reflect, and ask: WHAT CAN I LEARN FROM THIS? WHAT COULD I DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME?

I talk about this often in my CONFIDENCE BUILDER WORKSHOPS for adolescents and young adults. Building confidence isn't about never making mistakes. It's about learning to trust yourself, knowing you can adapt, and finding the courage to try again.

And it’s just as relevant for us as adults. Our first approach will sometimes fail.
Failure isn't the end; it’s simply the starting point for finding a better way. Success isn't about getting everything right the first time. It's about making small adjustments until you find a strategy that fits you, even if it looks completely different from someone else's.

Sometimes, the very thing we fear. FAILURE, gives us the chance to discover a better path forward.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. Have you ever experienced a setback that ultimately led you to a better solution? Let's chat in the comments! 👇

How often do you judge yourself not by your own progress but rather by how it compares to others' progress? This can be one of the biggest confidence breakers for adolescents, especially when it comes to academics.

💛 I wanted to share this post from my page because this is one of the most powerful tools I can offer women — especially if you’re feeling vulnerable, not good enough, or lacking confidence heading into Christmas gatherings.

If you’ve ever walked into a family event feeling self-conscious, judged, or like you don’t quite belong, this tool is for you.

It’s simple, science-informed, and incredibly grounding — and it has the potential to change how you experience this Christmas.

Take a few minutes to read the post and try the tool.
Sometimes the smallest shifts can make the biggest difference. 🎄✨

🎄 HOLIDAY HAPPINESS TOOL – TUESDAY CHRISTMAS SPECIAL 🎄
Adopt a Power Pose when you feel unsure or self-conscious ✨

💛A PERSONAL REFLECTION WHY THIS TOOL IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME
When I was an adolescent, I wasn’t the prettiest or the thinnest among my cousins. During a difficult period, I was chubby, self-conscious, and quietly ashamed of how I looked.

At Christmas gatherings, I remember trying to fade into the background, hoping not to be noticed.

I wish I had known then what I know now.
Christmas isn’t a beauty pageant.
It’s not about size or appearance.
It’s about connection, belonging, and being present.

This is one of the tools I wish I had had back then — and it’s one I now share with teenage girls, women, and parents.

✨ The Power Pose Tool

When we feel unsure, judged, or uncomfortable in family spaces, our body posture often collapses first — and our emotions follow.

🔻 LOW-POWER POSTURE
• shoulders slumped
• chest pulled inward
• arms folded or limp
• head bent forward
• body tense and closed

In this posture, the brain more easily pulls up old memories, past family tension, and self-critical thoughts. Low-power postures increase feelings of anxiety, defeat, and helplessness, making holiday stress and family friction feel heavier. 😔

🔺 HIGH-POWER POSTURE
• body upright and grounded
• shoulders back
• chest open
• head lifted
• arms strong or resting on hips

This posture sends a calm message to your nervous system:
🧠 “I’m safe. I’m steady. I can handle this.”

✨ This tool is especially powerful for:
• teenage girls
• women feeling self-critical
• anyone wishing they looked “different” this December

Your posture can gently remind your brain:
🌱 You are already enough.

I wanted to share this lesson because it’s one so many of us need — not only as parents of adolescents, but also in our marriages, our friendships, and our families.
Sometimes before we can truly see someone else’s hurt, we first need to take off the glasses of our own pain.
👉 You can read my full post and story on my page.

✨ ✨ TUESDAY LESSONS FROM MY OWN JOURNEY ✨ ✨

A few years back, when my son was being bullied at school, I made a mistake I didn’t even realise at the time. Even though I knew about the brain, even though I had the tools, I still fell into the same trap so many of us do.

THE TRAP:

Instead of seeing HIS PAIN for what it was, I let my OWN MEMORIES of being hurt as an adolescent colour the way I understood and responded to him.

And because of that, I couldn’t give him the support he really needed.

WHY?

Because I was seeing his situation through the GLASSES OF MY OWN PAST, not through his eyes.

THE LESSON:

Before responding to your child’s EMOTIONAL PAIN, pause and ask yourself —
Am I seeing this through their eyes, or through the PAINFUL LENS of my own adolescent hurts?

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT:

Neuroscience shows that when we witness our child’s pain, our empathy circuits don’t just react to their hurt — they also light up with echoes of our own. And if we don’t notice that, we risk reacting to ourselves instead of them.

THE REMINDER I HOLD ONTO:

👉 Take off the glasses of your past hurt, so you can truly see, hear, and support the person in front of you.

🌟 SOMETHING NEW IS COMING… AND I HAVE A GIFT FOR YOU 🌟

To everyone who’s been part of this journey with me — whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just recently found your way here — thank you 💛

Over the years, I’ve grown, evolved, and deepened my mission to support teens and young adults in building real confidence, emotional strength, and meaningful connection. And now… it’s time for a new name that truly reflects that purpose.

✨ Tomorrow, I’m officially launching my new name!
I’m so excited for this next chapter — and I can’t wait to share it with you.

🎁 To celebrate, I’ve created a free gift for all the teens preparing for their June/July exams…

🧠 Introducing the BRAIN BOOT-UP
A 5-minute brain warm-up designed to help teens:

✅ Calm exam-day anxiety
✅ Activate focus and memory
✅ Prevent that awful brain-freeze feeling
✅ Walk into the exam room feeling calm and confident

Please note:
This isn’t a study guide — and it’s not about nutrition, sleep, or phone rules.
While good sleep and healthy eating are very important in the lead-up to exams, the Brain Boot-Up is different.

It’s a set of practical, neuroscience-based tools to help your brain function at its best — on the day of the exam, when you walk into school, and especially as you sit down to begin writing.
