🦁🦁Learning, conservation and adventure in Botswana!

16 Life Sciences High School students joined Miss Jordaan, their Life Sciences teacher, for an unforgettable conservation volunteering experience in Botswana’s Tuli Block.

The students got hands-on experience through mammal censuses, bird censuses, anti-poaching patrols, road building and grassland rehabilitation, while learning more about wildlife conservation and the impact human activities can have on our precious wildlife.

They also had the incredible opportunity to see amazing wildlife up close, enjoy a memorable sleepout in the bush, and visit a nearby village to celebrate Botswana’s Independence Day.

A fantastic experience filled with learning, teamwork, adventure and a deeper appreciation for the importance of protecting our natural world!

🦁🦁High School Achievements

The Eskom Expo for Young Scientists is South Africa's largest and longest-running science fair, established in 1980 to encourage youth participation in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and innovation (STEMI).

How the Competition Works
1. District Expos: Non-competitive preliminary rounds where students present their work and receive expert feedback.
2. Regional Science Fairs: Competitive events held across 35 regions in South Africa where finalists compete for medals and advancement.
3. International Science Fair (ISF): The prestigious national finale where top regional minds and international participants showcase their research.

The 46th Eskom Expo International Science Fair concluded on October 2, 2026, at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre. Over 300 young scientists from South Africa and 11 international countries participated.

Arran Muller, Grade 10 learner at Curro Hermanus, excelled at this specific competition. At the Special Awards evening she was awarded by Reflecta Laboratory Supplies a voucher of R5000 for the Young Scientist Excellence Award. Her category Chemistry & Biochemistry: in recognition of outstanding scientific innovation, dedication and exceptional potential.

At the main awards ceremony she was awarded a Silver medal for her category.

Congratulations Arran! This is a great achievement and we are extremely proud of you.
